Last weekend the grandchildren were over for our monthly Crafting with Nanny date. Easter is just around the corner so we kept our craft project simple. We found a FREE oval shape template online (via Google image search) resized it to our liking and then printed it out. That is the base for your refrigerator magnets.
You can use a stiff felt or a craft foam to make the Easter Eggs. We opted for craft foam and use any color combinations that you would like. Have the kids cut out small circles, squares, triangles, waves, etc. from different colors of craft foam. They will need to be sized appropriately to fit onto the oval shape.
Use a quick-drying, all-purpose craft glue. I don’t recommend hot glue on foam which can melt it. Let the kids decorate them as they see fit. If you have rhinestones, beads, pom-poms, mini buttons, etc. in your craft stash, let them use those too! You can keep them simple (like we did) or bling them up with fancy decorations and accessories.
Let the front dry for 1-2 hours or until the decorations are firmly in place. Flip it over and add a commercial-grade magnet on the back with glue. You don’t want to use cheap magnets. It needs to be heavy-duty since you’re working with craft foam and don’t want them falling off the front of the refrigerator door. Let dry for 2-3 hours.
To finish up they took a Sharpie Marker and wrote their name and date on the back as a keepsake memory. In one afternoon they each made 4-6 Easter Egg Refrigerator Magnets. They’re now decorating the front of the refridgerator at their home. Easy and Cute!

The grandchildren know that Easter is coming and they appreciate doing different crafts and preparation for the holiday. It is a great idea to writ the child’s name and date on the back of the project.
I appreciate your suggestion to write the name and date on the back of the craft. That is something I wish I had done through the years.
This is a cute and clever craft project for Easter. I really like that you made these out of foam we have to try this one sounds fun.
That is really cute. We have made things like that for Easter before. Thank you for the memory.
