Farm-Direct Herbs and Spices from Selefina Spices

April 14, 2022 by Kristine

There are so many benefits of cooking at home—it brings the family together, it can be healthier and it can be a money saver. My husband and I plan out our meals every Sunday night and go through our pantry and fridge to see what we have on hand and what we need to purchase for the week. I was recently introduced to Selefina Spices, which is the newest farm-direct purveyor of herbs and spices. With this haul of herbs and spices, my pantry is stocked and ready for just about any recipe we come up with!

Selfelina is an online shop that was recently launched by the team behind Adagio Teas. Using the same care and dedication that go into curating its teas, Selefina works directly with farmers to offer fresh, high-quality spices that are reasonably priced. With the company’s decades of experience sourcing products and establishing global connections, they are committed to bringing their customers a positive online shopping experience along with top notch products.

I love to be inspired by new recipes and we always have a lot of fun cooking at home. We received an assortment of 12 different herbs and spices from Selefina which included ground tumeric root, cardamom, cacao powder, nutmeg, fennel seed, allspice berries, ginger root, cloves, cayenne pepper, cinnamon, fleur de sel and rose petals.

Many of these spices are already staples that we use frequently such as the nutmeg, cayenne pepper, cinnamon and the fleur de sel, which my husband absolutely loves to cook with. If you aren’t familiar, fleur de sel is a gourmet artisanal finishing salt that is harvested off the northern coast of France using centuries-old, sustainable, traditional methods. Fleur de sel is immaculately white since the salt crystals form on the surface of tidal pools and are carefully skimmed by hand and collected without coming in contact with the grey clay silt. He uses pinches of it to finish steaks, pork chops and on grilled vegetables. It is definitely a kitchen staple in our household.

The Selefina products can also spark your creativity and inspire you to prepare something unique and exciting. I am planning on hosting Mother’s Day Brunch at my house and serving a Cosmopolitan Cocktail with Rose Petals. So easy and delish! All you need is one ounce of vodka, half an ounce of lime juice, one ounce of cranberry juice. Mix all three in a cocktail shaker with ice and pour into your glass. Use the rose petals to garnish and you have a beautiful cocktail for a boozy brunch.

Another thing that I really like about Selefina’s product line is that they are available in small amounts, which allows you to use them when they are fresh. Knowing you can purchase small amounts of a certain spice can ease you out of your cooking comfort zone. For me, I haven’t cooked much with turmeric root. It has health benefits ranging from anti-inflammatory to antioxidant effects and can be used to on meats and vegetables, in curries or in soups such as a coconut-ginger chickpea soup, which is on our list to try!

All of the spices that I tried are available at the The Selefina website and range in price and size (a small pouch or a large pouch). In addition, the website has a section of recipes as well if you want to browse and get some inspiration—right now they are featuring some delicious looking hot chocolates.

For more information about Selefina, please visit the company’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages.

I like that you can get small amounts. I live alone so don’t use my herbs and spices in big quantities.
