Are you a lover of watching the sun rise and set? Heading to the south Jersey Shore? If so, you’ll want to head to Sunset Beach in Cape May to see some of the prettiest sunsets in the world! Yes, I really mean…some of the prettiest and most colorful sunsets in the world!!!
Sunset Beach is appropriately named and draws hundreds of visitors every night during the spring, summer and fall seasons. Visitors show up with their beach chairs, beach plankets, picnic baskets, bottles of wine, etc. and sit and watch the sunset out over the Delaware Bay. I love being there when there’s just a few clouds in the sky and during a warm, but not overly hot evening.
While you’re sitting on the beach you can watch all of the sunset cruises and boats going in and out of the Delaware Bay. On this particular evening they were busy and we saw over 25+ in a span of 30 minutes going by. The Cape May Whale Watcher had 2-3 of their boats out there carrying tourists up and down the coast.
After you’re done watching the sunset you can visit the Sunset Beach Gift Shop, Rock Store and depending on the time of the year…grab a bite to eat from the Sunset Beach Grille. All are located a few steps from the beach. There are 2 free parking lots for you to park in. If you’re looking for a public restroom, there’s only one and it’s inside the gift shop.
Looking for something fun to do while you’re there? You’ll find the Sunset Beach Mini Golf Course there too. It’s a beautifully landscaped miniature golf course with 18 holes. It’s our favorite place to play when we’re visiting Cape May.
I can understand why this beach is so popular. My only problem would be the lack of bathrooms.
Looking at your photos, I can certainly understand why folks would bring their dinner and chairs to hang out and see the gorgeous sunsets. What a wonderful experience.
