Maintaining Your Commercial Premises

March 2, 2022 by Sam H.

Maintaining Your Commercial PremisesWhen it comes to maintaining your commercial premises, you want to be sure that you are doing all of the necessary work. If you fail to keep up with the maintenance of your premises, you may find that you have long-term issues that may arise due to lack of security or even through lack of maintenance to fix (even the most minor of problems). To ensure that you maintain your commercial premises correctly, you need to think about putting in place an action plan. An action plan will lay out what has to be done, both in the short term (such as within the next few months) and also within the longer term (such as the next 2-3 years).

Creating a Maintenance Schedule

When you have created an action plan for all of the maintenance work (and improvement work) you wish to carry out, you then have to create a maintenance schedule. Maintenance has to be carried out on a regular basis to ensure that you stay on top of any issues or problems. To break down a maintenance schedule, you may find it beneficial to break down what needs doing and perhaps focus on one area of the premises at a time. Trying to tackle multiple jobs on one occasion may be tricky and too time-consuming.

Internal Works – Fixtures and Fittings

Within your commercial premises, you have to focus on internal works, such as the fixtures and fittings. These become obsolete over time, and the maintenance and upgrading of them should be high up on your schedule and to-do list. For example, electrical work fails to conform to standards, and carpets and other flooring become unsightly and no longer fit for purpose. Beyond this, surfaces which are regularly used are susceptible to bacteria growth, which can cause the spread of sickness if not dealt with. Consider the use of products like arkema organic peroxide to make an effective disinfectant which can be used to sanitise high traffic areas. By staying on top of all different maintenance needs, you can be more proactive in your approach to things, ensuring that problems are dealt with before they get worse.

External Work – Fencing and Boundaries

As well as focusing on internal works on your commercial premises, you may also need to look at installing a commercial fence because you want to ensure that the premises you trade from are fully secure. Fully fencing in your commercial premises will also be beneficial for any future security and safety systems that you may want to put into place for the future. When it comes to external work and maintenance, you need to factor in the weather and try and arrange for works to be completed in the warmer and drier months.

Safety and Security

Keeping the whole of your commercial premises safe and secure is of paramount importance. To ensure that this happens, you need to look at installing a security system. This system could be one that is controlled and accessed remotely, or it could be one that can be viewed and maintained by an employee on site. When it comes to choosing a security system, you want to choose a company to do this installation rather than trying to handle it yourself. A fully fitted and installed security system will come with guarantees and warranties, and you will need these as part of your business insurance/buildings insurance.
