Hand Painted Inspirational Seashells Yard Garden Art

We can all use a little more inspiration and positive thoughts in our lives. I like seeing positive messages throughout my home and in my outdoor garden areas. These handpainted seashells were made in one day and add a beautiful pop of color to my flower garden. You can display them inside or outside of the home. They make great inexpensive gifts too!

The clam shells used in this craft project measure 4-5″ wide. Once collected wash them in hot soapy water using Dawn liquid dish soap. Rinse clean and air dry. You need to remove all of the sand, debris, and fish odors from the shells before crafting with them.

Large Clam Seashells
Acrylic Craft Paints
Paint Brush, Water Dish, Paper Towels
Acrylic Craft Paint Pens, Medium Tip
Clear Acrylic Spray Sealer, Glossy Finish

Base coat each seashell with 2-3 coats of paint. Allow 30-40 minutes of drying time between each coat. All of the decorating was done using acrylic craft paint pens, so they make for a great beginner project. You don’t need to be an artist to make them!

Write your desired wordage on each shell. Keep it simple! One or two words. We used Hope, Faith, and Love. Then decorate them with dotted flowers, hearts, crosses, etc. Again, I recommend keeping them simple. I like the pops of color used which helps them to stand out in my flower garden. You can use whatever color combination that you like.

Once dry take them outside and spray each side with 2 coats of clear acrylic spray sealer. Allow for 45-60 minutes of drying time between coats. This will protect the painted surface and they’ll be weather resistant. That’s it, you’re done!

so many great ideals that you show here……. great niece love to paint the shells and take them home with her. She has a playhouse and she places her shells in her flowerbed

I love these too. We could do rocks like this and leave them in the church flower bed.
