Hand Painted Easter Bunny Peeps Seashells

Painted Seashell Happy EasterEaster is just around the corner and it’s time to get busy on those craft projects. The seashells that we hand painted are for any skill level. I sat down and made several of them with my almost 13 year old granddaughter and 72 year old mother. Once they’re done you can use them as table favors, indoor holiday decorations, outdoor garden yard art, etc.

We used large clam seashells that we collected from the beach. Take them home and wash them in hot soapy water. I recommend using Dawn liquid dish soap. It’s great at getting all of the sand, debris and smell off of your seashells. If needed, you can use an old toothbrush or Mr. Clean Magic Eraser for stubborn spots. Rinse with clean water and thoroughly air dry.

The seashell in the top photograph was base coated with 2 coats of pink metallic craft paint, allowing for 30 minutes of drying time between coats. Let it completely dry until it’s no longer tacky before decorating it with the paint pens. Use a white paint pen to write Happy Easter. The flowers were made using paint pens with tear-drop and dot shapes. Really easy to do! A great design for the kids to make.

Happy Easter Peeps Hand Painted Seashell

Happy Easter with the Marshmallow Peeps Bunny Design was easy too! You don’t need a pattern or template at all. Base coat the seashell with 2-3 coats of aqua blue acrylic paint. Once dry you’ll want to paint 2 circles using pale or bright yellow paint to form the body of the bunny rabbit. Simply add 2 tear drop shapes to the top of the head to form the ears. Let dry. Use an orange colored paint pen to outline the bunny shape. Use black to dot on two eyes and a nose. Peep bunnies don’t have mouths or whiskers, but you could add them if you want a more natural looking rabbit. Finish it up by writing Happy Easter along the sides.

You’ll want to protect the seashells by taking them outside and spraying the front and back with 2 coats of clear acrylic spray sealer. This will protect the painted finish from chipping, cracking, and fading. They can be displayed inside or outside of your home once they’ve been sprayed.
