Cleaning Up After Winter Storms
The winter season hit the northeast hard in 2022. We didn’t get any huge snowfalls in our area but got repeated ice storms, freezing rain, sleet, and wind. For about 2 months straight we got hit at least twice a week. I’ve never seen a more windier winter season!
During the weekends if the weather was semi decent we would spend hours outside in the cold cleaning up the property.
In just one winter season we incurred all of the following damage:
1 large tree (down and a total loss)
4 large trees (partially damaged)
2 holiday flags blew away
American flag, pole, and bracket blown away
27 shingles missing from the roof
6 large dents in the garden shed
3 large flower planters destroys
2 large garbage cans missing
3 dozen tiny dings in truck paint finish from hail
2 cracked windows in our home that had to be replaced
etc.
Over the season I would estimate that we collected 3 bags of trash that had blown into our yard. Cups, newspapers, cans, bottles, paper of all type’s, etc. For safety reasons we always wore 2 pairs of gloves when cleaning up trash that found its way into our yard.
The photos in my post are the damage one ice storm caused to the oldest pine tree on our property. It ripped off 6 large branches on one side of the tree. I have professionals coming out next week to look at the tree to see if its worth saving. What a mess. I’m glad the winter season is over.
