We love spending time up on the boardwalk in Wildwood, New Jersey. It’s a great place to take a leisurely walk, to do some shopping, and to grab a bite to eat. There are all kinds of fun activities up on the boards like mini golf, arcades, waterparks, amusement rides, entertainment venues, etc.
If you can’t do a lot of walking it’s wheelchair and scooter accessible. Plus, you can pay to take a ride on the tram car which goes up and down the boardwalk during the summer season. Bike riding is allowed only during the early morning hours and it’s encouraged that you stay within the bike lanes.
Regarding food…you’ll find all kinds of quick and affordable foods and beverages. They’re not the best offerings on the island but okay for quick and hot meals. You’ll find candy & sweet shops and ice cream parlors too. If pizza is your thing…check out Sam’s Pizza and if you’re in the mood for soft-serve ice cream we recommend Kohrs Bros.
Want to avoid the crowds and congestion? They daytime pounding heat? Go up onto the boards around 9 or 10 am (leave before noon) or between the hours of 6 and 8 pm in the evening. It can get extremely crowded up there during the primetime weekend hours. Make sure you talk to your kids about staying with you and not wondering off.
Parking can be a real bear! You’ll find metered parking up and down all of the streets located around the boardwalk. That’s okay if you only plan on being up there for an hour or two. However, if you plan on going over onto the beach or spending several hours or the day up on the boards you’ll want to park in one of the paid parking lots which is obviously cheaper when you’re spending a good length of time up there.
Looking for deals when shopping? You’ll want to go during the off-season like late spring and early fall. We love visiting the Jersey Shore in late May and in late September. You’ll find many vendors marking down their items 50-75% off which can really add up the savings. Hello…Christmas shopping! I often find tees for the grandkids for $3.00 to $5.00 each and hoodies for $7.00 to $10.00 each. I stock up!
The Wildwood Boardwalk has a lot of different things to offer. It’s a great family place to visit and it’s heavily patrolled by local law enforcement on-foot and riding around in golf carts.
I have not yet been to Wildwood, but I shall keep in mind all hour tips. It does look like a fabulous place to visit.
Wildwood is the best! Love vacationing there or doing a day trip. Either is great!
Looks like a nice place for a day trip and to do some strolling. I would want to go on a weekday morning when it was quieter and not as crowded.
