If you’ve never had a body wax before, you may be wondering what to expect. Most people are familiar with the process of getting a body wax- you go to the salon, sit down in the chair, and someone does the service. But if you need to know, here is a breakdown of the body waxing process to know what to expect when you go in for your treatment.
(1) When you arrive at the salon, your esthetician will greet you and lead you over to the waxing area. She will have you sit in a chair with stirrups so that she can easily access your skin without having to bend or contort her body. If this is your first time getting a body wax, she may use this time to discuss your treatment options with you and any concerns you might have. A good Waxing Langley expert will listen to your concerns and will give you a safe and relaxing session.
(2) Next, she will remove the top sheet from her station and cover the opening of each stirrup with it. This helps ensure that nothing gets on or into those sensitive areas- significant for male clients receiving a groin wax! Your esthetician should then sanitize the site (s) that she will be waxing and may also choose to use a small strip of paper over the sanitized skin before applying the wax.
(3) The wax used for body waxes is typically warmed in a wax warmer. The type of wax that is most commonly used has a considerably lower melting point than other types of wax. This allows it to liquefy when applied to the skin but cool quickly once the heat source is removed to be rapidly pulled away from the skin. She will apply this warm-to-the-touch product using her wooden applicator, pressing firmly against your skin while moving in an upward motion with long strokes following the direction of hair growth. At this time, you might feel the heat of the wax when it is in contact with your skin. Some people even say that it feels like a slight burning sensation when applied correctly by someone who knows what they are doing.
(4) Once the wax has been applied, she will place a strip of muslin cloth (also known as “paper towel”) firmly over it and secure it into a position perpendicular to your body with a large, square piece of rigid cellophane tape. This technique provides additional grip so that when she pulls on this support strip quickly and in a single fluid motion, the waxed hair comes away from your body along with any loose bits of sticky wax left behind from the initial application. Since hair follicles often grow toward the surface at different angles, this waxing technique tends to give you a smooth finish with no evidence of the root within the hair shaft.
(5) The muslin strip should be pulled in one quick motion, at an angle parallel to your body, away from your body toward the floor. This pulling action is done quickly and firmly so that it simultaneously rips off all loose bits of sticky wax that were still attached to your skin during removal. This process leaves behind only completely smooth skin free of any traces of sticky wax or signs of newly removed hair.
(6) You will feel a slight stinging sensation when applied correctly by someone who knows what they are doing.
(7) After the procedure is complete, she’ll hand you a small hand-held fan to cool your newly bared flesh and should give you a quick “tap” on each of the inflamed patches to further soothe any residual discomfort.
(8) You can expect some redness post waxing, but this goes away within minutes or hours.
If you are a first-timer, make sure to choose a Brazilian Wax Langley salon with an experienced aesthetician. She will go over the entire process before she starts with you, which is excellent to avoid misunderstandings or awkwardness during your appointment. Also, don’t be shy! You’ll look like you’re wearing nothing but a small piece of cloth around your waist at this point, so modesty about anything makes no sense here.
We hope this article has helped you become more aware of the body waxing process.
This post was very informative. I still do not think that I would get a body wax any time soon.
Nice to know what happens. I still have no intention of doing this.
