Every month we like to take a drive out of the city to explore the countryside. Luckily for us, the city that we live in is surrounded by gorgeous farmlands in every direction that you go. On a 1 hour drive you’ll see a lot of old farms, barns, rusted farm equipment, roadside stands, antique shops, etc. Plus, our area is loaded with small town diners!
Last month we headed to Cumberland County and stumbled upon a 200+ year old stone farmhouse with a gorgeous old barn! The house is listed as a historical site and the property has a small walking trail that is open to visitors. Totally free to visit.
We parked in the little parking lot and got out to walk around. The old farm house was really nice but what really got our attention was the old wooden barn! I can just imagine the farm animals that used to live in that barn or the old equipment that was housed inside.
On the property is a small stream with a wooden walkway bridge. While standing up on the bridge you could see the mountains (miles away) in the backdrop, the naked trees (it’s winter time) and all of the natural beauty that the winter season has to offer. I love how the shadows of the naked trees dances on the side of the barn. Beautiful!
There were a few other people there that day walking around the property and we stopped to talk to one couple who also enjoys going out to see old homes, farm houses and barns! Yay! I’m glad that we’re not the only ones! Check out that old rusted, metal water pump above. Wow, you don’t see many of those anymore!!!
It was cold outside but yet it was refreshing to get some fresh air. When there is snow on the ground we avoid little day trips like this and stay home, so it was nice to have a weekend to go out.
Living in the city has its advantages but most of the natural beauty in this world is in the countryside. The old homes, barns, mountains, country roads, trees, lakes, etc. are always calling our name. We try to get out to the countryside as often that we can.
I too like that old water pump. Old barns and their properties can give us a glimpse into the past besides showing us the beauty from older times.
So neat to see that old water pump. I remember using one of these when we would visit an aunt and uncle that lived in the country. It looks like such a beautiful place to visit and take a walk.
That is so nice. I live in an area where there are buildings like this around. Most are not open to the public or this nice but still fun to look at.
I so love seeing old barns I think they are pretty. I would really like to paint some barns. This looks like a nice piece of property thanks for sharing these great pictures.
