Preschool Kid’s Craft – A is for Alligator Paper Craft

Preschool Kid's Craft - A is for Alligator Paper CraftKids love to dabble in arts and crafts which is a great way to teach them some of the things they need to learn before entering school. For example: Children should be taught their ABC’s, Numbers, Colors, and Shapes while in Preschool, along with other things. Giving them a headstart before starting Kindergarten goes a long way in aiding their educational success.

Last weekend we sat down with two 4 year olds and worked on the letter A, the animal Alligator, and the color Green. We were able to tackle all three with this easy Preschool kid’s craft project. All you need to make it is construction paper, scissors, and a glue stick.

Before we got started I looked up some interesting facts about alligators online and wrote them down on an index card. This helped me to teach both kids about them. Here’s some of what I used.

Alligator Facts:

* Part of the Reptile Family
* Live in Freshwater and Brackish Water Environments
* Native to Southeastern United States and small area in Mexico
* They have 4 Limbs
* Have Muscular, Flat Tails to Aid in Swimming
* Animals are Dangerous and Shouldn’t be Approached or Kept as Pets
* Typicall Dark Green and Brown in Color

We used green, white and black construction paper for our project. Using a black marker I traced out a large-sized letter A in block-form. You can then have the child cut it out using scissors. To make the white teeth and large eyes we used white construction paper. The children designed their own teeth and two round eyes, and cut them out. Use a glue stick to attach them to the letter A.

To finish up you’ll need two smaller circles cut from black construction paper to make the pupils. They are then glued to the center of each white eye. That’s it! Quick and easy project.

The one that my grandson made is proudly displayed on the front of my refrigerator right now. You can do something similar with each letter of the alphabet…picking a different animal each time.

    This is a cute idea and it is something easy for my granddaughter to do.

  2. What a cute idea and you really made it a complete lesson with doing art while learning the letter and tying it into talking about alligators. Learning while having fun.

    That is so cute and they learn also. Best of both worlds. Thank you for the idea.
