For anyone who loves keeping hair, the goal is to have healthy and shiny hair that enhances their looks. But the one thing that always seems to hinder that is hair damage. Brittle strands, dry hair, or split ends are never good. In fact, it can be frustrating when you feel like you are doing everything for your hair, but it is not improving. Fortunately, there are steps you can take to prevent hair damage in the first place. Discussed below are a few tips to guide you.
Know When to Wash Your Hair
Several things will influence how often you wash your hair. They include your hair type, lifestyle, or hairstyle. Still, you need to keep in mind that there is something like under and over-washing your hair, both of which can cause damage. If you have oily hair, washing daily is okay. On the other hand, if you know you have extremely dry hair, it may only need shampooing once a week. Understand your hair type first to know how to take care of it properly.
Invest in Quality Products
It is no secret that some hair products can do more harm than good to your hair. Also, remember to keep your hair hydrated to reduce the risk of breakage. Shampoo your hair, then apply TGIN conditioner once your hair is clean. When buying a product, some of the qualities to look for include fixing split ends, replenishing the hair, and strengthening it.
Be Gentle With The Brush
Part of your hair care routine should be how you brush your hair and how often. While brushing can promote healthy growth, overdoing it can damage hair. An excessive amount of brushing, especially if your hair is still wet, will lead t breakage. After washing your hair, apply a conditioner, then use a wide-tooth comb to detangle your hair. Also, if possible, try and avoid brushing throughout the day unless you need to detangle your hair again.
Cut Off Damaged Ends
You can stop hair damage if it has just started by cutting it off. That does not mean you cut off your whole hair. However, hair damage often begins at the end, and that is where you should be trimming. Once in a while, ask your hairstylist to trim those damaged ends. It will help protect your hair and prevent more breakage. Most hair experts recommend trimming your hair every 6 to 8 weeks to prevent hair damage.
Protect Your Hair from Heat
Blow-drying your hair daily is likely to cause severe damage. That does not mean you should do away with your hair drier and only stick to air drying. You can learn how to dry your hair correctly. That means giving your hair a few minutes to air dry then finishing with a blow dryer. You will be exposing your hair to less heat, which prevents damage.
With these few tips, you stand a chance of fighting off hair damage. At the same time, you will get to enjoy healthy hair that boosts your confidence.
These are all good suggestions. However, for me , in winter, even in the house I feel too cold if I leave my hair wet , so I will blow dry it right away. I try to use a lot of conditioner before the drying.
Great tips and reminders. I have way more careful not to brush my hair too fast and I also try not to use the hair dryer that often.
I agree with all your suggestions. I do not use a blow dryer at all since my hair is short.
