This hand painted LOVE HEART seashell would be perfect to give to your sweetheart on Valentine’s Day or use them as little home decor accents. I decorate in a Coastal Cottage style and I think they’re adorable! You can make several of them in one weekend using found seashells collected from the beach and acrylic craft paints.

For this project I used 4″ and 5″ wide LARGE clam shells. I brought them home and washed them in hot, soapy water. I like to clean seashells in Dawn liquid dish soap. It does a great job at removing sand, debris and fishy odors. Rinse clean. Let dry for 2-3 days before starting your project.
Above is a photograph of an alternative version you can make. The designs are easy to do and great for all skill leavels.
I base coated the clam shell with 2 coats of white acrylic craft paint, allowing for 45 minutes of drying time between each coat. Use red acrylic craft paint to make a HEART in the center of the seashell. I had to use 2 coats of paint to get the coverage that I needed. Let dry until it’s no longer tacky.
Use black acrylic craft paint (or a black paint pen) to write the word LOVE. I like that it’s over-extending the heart shape which fills up the design better than writing it inside the heart. It gives it much better balance and presence. While that is drying dip the end of your paint brush into red paint and make polka dots around the edge of the shell. Let everything dry for several hours.
You can use paint pens or markers to write your sweetheart a message underneath the shell. Don’t forge to date and autograph it with your signature.
Take it outside on a decent weather day and spray it with 2-3 coats of clear acrylic spray sealer. I used one in a glossy finish which gives it a nice shine. Let dry overnight. This will protect the painted surface. You can display them inside or outside your home.

Very cute project for this coming Valentine’s Day. I am going to make sure my grandkids date and autograph the back as you suggested. We have not done that in the past and I think it is such a good idea.
More sea shell crafts. You must have hundreds of these at your house.
These are so cute and cheery. I love decorating for Valentine’s Day and these would be cute around the house and super fun to make.
I guess Valentines is coming soon. Time passes so quickly. I would like to make some of these for the girls.
This is another cute craft and perfect for Valentine’s Day. I like that you gave us two possible versions.
