7 Reasons to Rent a Self-Storage Unit

7 Reasons to Rent a Self-Storage UnitThere is no better time to hire a self-storage unit than when there is first month free storage. This is certainly the case in Spokane, Washington State. We may not feel that we need the space quite yet, but it will give us chance to see just how useful it can be. In this article, we will explore many of the reasons why self-storage units can be so useful.

To Declutter
Many of us would agree that self-storage is a good plan at any time of the year. We continue to gather items over the years and seem to gain more items than we ever dispose of. Changes of heart will mean that it is not because of the item stopping working that we end up buying another of a certain item. Then, we will tend to still store the old one as a spare. This could be a wise move, except that we will need somewhere to store it. This is where self-storage units come in handy. We can then store those surplus items for us or our children and grandchildren potentially, rather than having them take up attic space, we could use for something else. Items under our feet make living less comfortable, cleaning more awkward, and can create a health and safety hazard.

Planning a Move
Moving home is very much a strategic exercise. It requires precise planning for it to run smoothly. A great part of using state-of-the-art facilities offered by the top self storage companies is that they have round the clock access, this allows you to come and go freely to store items and pull them out. If you’re thinking weeks ahead of the move, using a storage unit can allow you to move out larger or non essential items, reducing the amount that will need moving on the day and reducing the chaos of the move. This will make it easier on a moving day and allow you to focus on packing valuable items more securely as you’ll have the space to accomodate for this. Being able to access the storage any time also allows you to have flexibility in when you’re packing things up, as well as when you’re set on moving. If the storage unit were only open at specific times it could cause difficulties with your schedule when trying to retrieve your possessions.

Time to Decide
Self-storage units buy us time to decide what to do with items. We do not want to make the wrong decision and dispose of an item that might, in the future, prove useful. Disposing of it early might mean us later having to re-buy an item that we might have kept.

Seasonal Changes
Many homeowners will change the look of their homes depending on the season. Rather than buying new, we can simply rotate items using a self-storage unit to help us. Think of this as the same process of putting up the Christmas or holiday decorations for December and then taking them down again in early January. We do not want them in the way the rest of the year, yet want them to hand when it is time to put them up.

Preservation
Self-storage units can be a way of preserving items because they have temperature-controlled environments that retain constant temperatures. Antique items need that extra bit of TLC, and where you store them will impact their future value, in terms of keeping them in desirable condition for collectors. If they are part of our investment plans for retirement, we will want to ensure that our items retain their value and that we are not responsible for the items not making a return because we have somehow damaged them. It makes financial sense to hire a self-storage for that purpose as well as it helping us out with items we cannot accommodate within our home.

Travel
When we travel, there are two reasons why we may want to rent a self-storage unit. 1) we do not have a permanent residence, and 2), we like more of our items near to us while on a personal or business trip. Also, there are proportions of the population who will live inside motoring homes. They will be short on space and rely on self-storage as another way of storing the kinds of items that would ordinarily quite comfortably fit inside the rooms of a conventional home.

Student Accommodation
There is never enough room when you are a student. A part of the problem is that we invariably share that accommodation with fellow students. This is either because of a university arrangement or to keep the costs down in shared housing. Self-storage units will help students and parents out.

These many reasons to rent a self-storage unit may just be the tip of the iceberg, and with the many discounts currently on offer, it is the perfect time to find out just how many uses such a unit could have for us.

I can definitely see the use of this when moving. I tried it after our move and it worked and forced me to declutter too!

  2. I have some friends that have downsized and use their storage unit to keep items that they don’t use on a regular basis. I know others that have used storage units for items that they have inherited and may want to pass down or sell in the future.

  3. I can see the use of this when moving. For many of the other reasons I think people need to get rid of too much stuff.

  4. This post was really informative and gave me a lot to consider regarding the use of a storage unit. Have a great weekend and thanks for sharing.
