The Materials Used for Custom Clear and Vinyl Decals

December 17, 2021 by Sam H.

The Materials Used for Custom Clear and Vinyl DecalsClear stickers are oil and water-resistant. They can be used for various purposes including car stickers and outdoor ads. You can use ultraviolet laminates on them, and they offer the same versatility as product stickers or promotional labels. They can be printed with the front face serving as an adhesive, and you can turn them into window prints that face outside of your shop.

Some come on rolls so that you can use a lot of them for your promotional needs. With clear decals, you will have a small amount of paper that serves as a backing, and this will make the application and peeling easier. Most of them are included in single sheet or multiple sticker designs.

Materials Used

These products are usually printed with the use of polypropylene materials. They have different qualities and designs depending on your needs. There are also the crystal-clear varieties where the stickers around the primary designs will disappear virtually upon application. This can often be used to your advantage by making the shapes and colors stand out on multiple backgrounds, all from a single design.

Another more popular option is called white ink printing. This is when you use a layer of white ink behind a specific design, so you’re essentially increasing the overall opacity of the decal. Your artwork’s colors will stand out more, and they are visible mainly if you apply them against a darker surface. However, there is also an option to leave the white ink option if you’re uncomfortable using them. This will result in your decals getting an entirely different look that you can see in a stained glass.

Custom Shapes with a Glossy Finish

Clear labels and stickers will result in a glossier finish than the vinyl varieties. These make them more appealing in general, and they are considered to have a more high-quality and attractive look compared to other materials. Your packaging and branding will be more professional with them, and custom shapes are available with these clear stickers.

They look great even if you have a complex design. They can keep the brand more alive and visible in outdoor settings, and you can rely on them for better product promotion.

More about the Properties of Decals

Decals can consist of various layers from the bottom to the top:

1. They are made up of film facestock or paper, making the topmost layer a more labeled stock. The prints are done on the upper sides.
2. The adhesives are applied at the very bottom of the facestock.
3. Silicones or several coating layers are applied to the backing material’s upper side.
4. Papers or film liners consist of the bottom layer of the facestock.

Different varieties are for water-dip or water-slide purposes. Others have vinyl peel-and-stick, water-dip decals, adhesives with water-soluble screen prints, and many more. The water-soluble sticker should be on a water-resistant paper that is dipped into a liquid before the application process.

With a vinyl decal, there will be a loosening of glue upon its contact with the water, and the decal will be removed from its paper backing. Get more info about the vinyl material on this page here. However, know that the sticky side should be pressed on the surface as soon as possible because the glue will be dissolved when of overlong exposures. This will cause the sticker to fail in adhesion.

About the Modern Production Process

Mass-production of the vinyl may usually start with a sheet. The vinyl will usually be fed into a large-format printer or a cutting plotter. This is the process of printing the desired shapes, sizes, images and cutting off the stickers.

Nowadays, specialized computer programs and software are the first steps of getting the designs fed electronically. After cutting the patterns, there were excess vinyl sheets that needed to be removed. This is called weeding. The final process is a pre-mask paper applied on top of the vinyl design. This allows easy application of several shapes and multiple letters at the same time.

Recent inventions in technology made it possible for radio frequency identification or RFID circuits in film facestock or paper. These RFID stickers are read at toll booths and other applicable areas to allow passage for cashless payments. With the right company, you’ll be able to get custom clear decals that are according to your specifications. You just need to call them to know more about your options. How Long Do the Stickers Last?

The lifespan of the decals or stickers may depend on the type of product they were made from and where they will be placed. The ones that were made up from vinyl may have a lifespan of five years, while others will have a sticky surface that will last up to a year or so. Some specialty materials like glow in the dark may last up to four years when placed indoors.
