These painted soup can lids snowman ornaments are super-easy to make! We made them with a group of children ages 6 years to 12 years of age. Once painted they can be hung on the Christmas tree as an ornament or added to a gift-package for adornment. They also look cute hanging up inside your home as part of your holiday decor.

You can do fancy designs or simple designs like this one. We recommend that when you work with young kids that you keep the design SIMPLE. The project is to be fun, not frustrating for them. You will need 2 afternoons or evenings to make them to allow for drying time. Have an adult use a drill with a drill bit to make the hanging hole at the top before you paint them.
Painted Soup Can Lids Snowman Ornaments
Metal Soup Can Lids
Acrylic Craft Paint – White, Black, and Orange
Paint Brush, Water Dish, Paper Towels
Clear Acrylic Spray Sealer or Ribbon
Clear Fishing Line
Scissors
Base coat the front and back of the lids with 2 coats of white craft paint allowing for 30 minutes of drying time between each coat. Use black paint to make 2 oval shaped eyes, orange paint to make the triangular shaped carrot nose and black paint to add the 5 round shaped coal pieces for his mouth. Let dry. Once the eyes are no longer tacky you’ll need to add the white color for his inner eyes. Let dry for 1-2 hours.
Take the lids outside and spray them lightly with one coat of clear acrylic spray sealer. This will protect the painted finish from chipping and cracking. Let dry. Cut an 8″ long piece of clear fishing line or satin ribbon to thread through the top. Knot the two ends together make a hanging loop.
