Our cat Romeo loves to lay and sit in front of windows and open doors. He will stare outside for hours at a time looking for birds! Yup, he’s a bonafide birdwatcher and birdwatching is his favorite hobby!
Romeo doesn’t care if its day or night, hot or cold outside…he just wants to sit there and look at the birds! When several of them arrive he will start talking to them “cackling” is what it’s called. His ears and tail start going crazy while he’s cackling at his friends. I have no idea what he’s saying to them but it’s often an intense conversation.
He has plenty of toys all around the house and yes, he does play with them from time to time. If you asked him what his favorite thing to do was (besides eat and sleep) he would tell you birdwatching! Meow, Meow, Meow.
We had a mild day last week so I opened up the front door and he was in his glory. Fresh air, a little bit of a breeze and about 15 birds sitting in our front yard looking for dinner. He sat there in that exact spot for 75 minutes until the birds moved on. You would of thought Christmas had arrived early.
My son had two cats who love to watch birds. However, they are not as enamored of them as Romeo seems to be . i love how he talks to the birds.
My cat loves going up on his cat tree and looking out the window at the birds and sometimes the bunnies. We have some crows that will sit on the eaves above the window and that gets him talking a lot.
Romeo has you/your family trained! But then most cats do it. My cats loved to look out the windows so I had all the furniture arranged so they could sit/lay watching out the windows. I was not allowed to have anything on the top of my TV because that was Billie’s major spot to look out the window.
You do have a bird watching cat. Mine used to be like that: eh, eh, eh…. ‘mom, there’s birds out there’.
