A Comparison of a Mermaid Prom Dress and a Trumpet Dress

If you are getting ready for this year’s prom dance and have narrowed down your choice of dress to two styles – the mermaid and the trumpet dress – this article was written with you in mind. We have put together a comparison guide that should help you make that final choice for this year’s prom dress.

Trumpet Style Prom Dress

The Trumpet Style Dress

It’s called the trumpet dress mainly because the lower flare shape resembles a trumpet and the dress hugs the figure. If you would like to view stunning trumpet style dresses created by famous designers, start with a Google search to locate an online designer dress boutique and see what they have on offer. You can view stunning prom dresses from well-known designers such as Sherri Hill and Jovani, and when you shop online, you get the best deals.

The Mermaid Dress

If you have an hourglass figure, why not show it off with a slinky mermaid dress? The best thing to do is search for mermaid prom dresses online and expect to find all sizes, with rich colors and a variety of fabrics. This style of dress flares at around the knee length, which resembles a mermaid’s tail. This style is for the outgoing girl who is brimming with self-confidence and if you can look in the mirror and give a thumbs up, the mermaid is for you!

The Main Differences

While very similar, there are a few minor differences between a mermaid and a trumpet dress. The trumpet dress flares around the mid-thigh area, while the mermaid flares at the knees or just below and your body type should be the deciding factor between the two. If you don’t have that perfect hourglass figure, the trumpet dress is more forgiving and likely to be more comfortable to wear.

Personality

Your personality plays a role in your outfit, so maybe it is best to leave the final choice to your inner feeling; if you lean towards one or the other, go with that. You could ask friends for advice, but we don’t recommend that; they aren’t the ones wearing the gown, you are and if you feel good about your look, that’s really all that counts.

The Online Designer Dress Boutique

This is the best place to source your gown, where you will find stunning creations from the best designers and if you are thinking prices are too high, you will be in for a pleasant surprise. The online boutique doesn’t have the huge overheads of a trendy store and can therefore slash prices. Let’s not forget that you will be wearing this dress a few times over the coming few years and the best made gowns stand the test of time.

Make sure that when you order, you allow enough time for you to take the dress to a local seamstress. There will be minor alterations required for a perfect fit, then you will be ready for your perfect prom dance!

  1. Jo-Ann Brightman says

I did not know the differences between these two styles. I would have chosen a trumpet dress if my parents would have allowed it, but both styles are too formfitting for them.

  2. These are so very different than prom dresses when I was in high school. Of course that was 55 years ago. I like the trumpet dress best.

  3. I really like both of these dresses they are so pretty. I think I like the trumpet dress better though and I love that color so elegant.
