Halloween Vampire Painted Mason Jar Lid Ornaments

Halloween Vampire Painted Mason Jar Lid OrnamentsEvery year I do a lot of home canning. I enjoy preserving fruits and vegetables from our garden for my family to enjoy during the wintertime season. That means I’m always left with a lot of “used” metal mason jar lids that I used to toss into the trash. I now save those lids and use them in craft projects like this easy-to-make Vampire Halloween Ornament.

You will want to gently pop-off the lids from your mason jars. Wash them in hot, soapy water, rinse with clean water and towel dry. You can use regular and/or wide mouth lids for this project. If you don’t have mason jar lids…you can certainly used clean soup can lids!

Metal Mason Jar Lids
Drill with Drill Bit
Acrylic Craft Paint: Purple, Black, White and Red
Paint Brush, Water Dish and Paper Towels
Clear Acrylic Sealer, Glossy Finish
Clear Fishing Line
Scissors

Use a drill to make a hole at the top of the mason jar lid. Base coat the front and back of the lid with 2 coats of purple acrylic paint, allowing 30 minutes of drying time between each coat. The paint needs to be completely dry before adding the facial features.

Start by adding the white two oval-shaped eyes. Then add the black eye brows and u-shaped nose. Add the mouth using red paint and the two white fangs using white paint. Once the eyes are dry you can add the black pupils. Let it completely dry until paint is no longer tacky.

Take lids outside and spray them with 1-2 light coats of clear acrylic spray sealer. Let dry for 2-3 hours or until no longer tacky. Cut an 8″ long piece of clear fishing line (or satin ribbon) and thread it through the top to make a hanging loop by knotting the two ends together. Trim ends with scissors.

You can hang your new Halloween ornaments inside or outside your home. They’re cut hanging off trees & bushes. Hang them up inside as Halloween party decor.
