Every 6-8 weeks I enjoy planning a Pappy and Grand-Kids play date with the kids. It’s a special time that Prince and Princess look forward to. We will hit up local amusement parks, museums, carnivals & fairs, puppet shows at the library, go to the frisbee park, etc. There are a lot of fun things you can do with the kids in our area.
My grandchildren get plenty of one-on-one time with my wife (their Nanny), so I started doing Pappy play dates two years ago and it has been a hit. I enjoy it just as much as the kids do and it keeps me on my toes.
In early September I took them to Hersheypark to get on the amusement rides for 4 1/2 hours. They wanted to spend all day, but I’m getting too old for that. We got on roller coasters, bumper cars, high flying swings, drove antique cars, water rides, played games, etc. Prince who just turned 6 wasn’t afraid to get on anything. The kids love those exciting, high-flying, super-fast rides.
After our afternoon at the park I took them out to eat for dinner. The kids picked Red Robin where we enjoyed french fries, burgers and ice cream sundaes. We ate until our bellies were full and then headed home.
If you’re a grandparent, especially a grandfather I think its great to plan regular play dates and outings with the grandchildren. Mine really look forward to it and it’s a great way for me to have special one-on-one time with them too. Plus, it gives my wife and daughter an opportunity to go out shopping together without the kidlets tagging along.
I agree , but my grandchildren are all very young. I am waiting for them to get their shots before i take them on trips.
You are making wonderful memories for your grandchildren. 4 1/2 hours at the park is plenty of time for all.
This is such a wonderful idea to have Poppy play dates with your grandchildren. They will remember these specials days for the rest of their lives. Hershey Park sounds like a blast I didn’t know they had rides there.
We just had our first granddaughter and my husband loves to stop by on his way home from work to see her. I spend a lot of time with my daughter and granddaughter, and am so happy he also loves his time with her. I think these Pappy play dates are a wonderful idea, for both the grandkids and Pappy!
That is such a great idea. My brother-in-law calls his grandkids over to play board games all the time. They love it and make tournaments out of those time. Making memories is so important.
