I’m in my 70’s and always looking for healthier versions of some of my favorite foods. Decades ago you didn’t have as many choices like what you find today. You were stuck buying whatever was available at the time. Let’s face it, food choices have come a long way over the years with an emphasis on healthier eating.
During the fall and winter I enjoy a good bowl of oatmeal at breakfast to start my day. I will eat it plain, flavored or with fresh fruits tossed into it. I find it filling and satisfying. It will hold me over until lunchtime with no need to snack in between meals. Important if you’re watching your weight.
I picked up a box of Better Oats Cinnamon Roll Instant Oatmeal with Flax Seeds after it caught my eye sitting on the shelf. One thing that really interested me is that it contains real flax seeds, it’s ready in 90 seconds and only 100 calories per serving. It contains natural and artificial cinnamon roll flavor.
It’s made with whole grain, rolled oats and flax seed which is a good source of ALA Omega-3. Each serving contains 25g or more of whole grains. You can make it in the microwave oven or simply add a 1/2 cup of boiling water in the bowl with a packet of the oatmeal. Wait 90 seconds and enjoy.
Some of my favorite stir-in’s include: sliced bananans, sliced strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, mulberries, and cranberries. You can toss in some of your favorite raisins too. Personally, the majority of the time I enjoy a bowl of oatmeal with fresh fruit tossed-in. It fills me up even more and adds to the flavor profile.
I’ve replaced my old brand of oatmeal with the Better Oats and really happy that I made the switch. If you haven’t tried Better Oats yet, I highly recommend you give it a try.
