The Best Bottle Brush for Cleaning Mason Jars

Munchkin Sponge Bottle BrushI’ve been a profilic home canning and canning my family’s foods for the past 33+ years. I first learned as a little girl while helping my grandmother in the kitchen. I learned at a very young age the importance of growing, harvesting, and preserving your own foods. What you grow is 100% better than what you find in a grocery store. Even if you can’t grow your own foods…I recommend supporting local farmers in your area if you can.

Glass mason jars are a must-have when canning. I own at least 700+ jelly jars, pint jars and quart sized mason jars. When washing them, it’s extremly important to get them clean. You need to get out all of the food, dust, stains, etc. inside and on the outside of the jar. The cleaner, the better. You never want to preserve food in a dirty jar.

Over the decades I’ve used many different types of bottle brushes. Some have been decent while others were total crap. I personally like a brush with a foam sponge on the end. It can get into the very bottom of the jar and into the “curved” parts around the bottom. I like the bristles for scrubbing off stubborn food parties and debris. Hence, why I only use bottle brushes that contain both a sponge and bristles!

Four months ago I bought a new one (mine was falling apart) from a particular brand and it lasted me 5 weeks. No kidding, 5 weeks. The sponge area was falling apart after week 2 and by week 5 I threw it into the trash. Such a waste of money.

Munchkin Sponge Bottle Brush

A few weeks ago I purchased another one. The one that I fell in-love with is made by Munchkin and it’s called a Sponge Bottle Brush. It’s made for cleaning baby bottles but let me tell you…it’s PERFECT for those of us who do canning and need to constantly clean mason jars!

What makes this one special? Well, I’m going to tell you. Several things!

It has a strong sponge tip which gets into the very bottom of your jars and gets them clean, even around the curved bottom. The bristles are great at getting the stubborn stuff off and finishing up the cleaning job. Inside the handle (pull it apart) you’ll find a hidden nipple brush. Since I’m not cleaning baby bottles I use it to get gunk out from between the grooves that go around the jar’s opening. Finally, it stands upright when not in use. Just stand it up (handled end down) to let it air-dry. Love that!!!

If you’re shopping for a new baby bottle cleaning brush or if you’re into home canning like me…you need to pick up a Sponge Bottle Brush from Munchkin! It’s one of the best that I’ve ever used.

I actually have this brush because I used it to clean my granddaughter’s baby bottles. I have been using it for tall glasses and jars ever since I stopped needing baby bottles.

I like this. I have one similar for cleaning hard to reach kitchen items. Only difference between yours and mine I can see is the design of the sponge. Mine is cut more like a rag mop or something. Bottle brushes making cleaning so much easier.

This is a great brush. I reuse some food jars for storage. This is perfect to clean them up. Thank you for the review.

  4. I can see why this is such a good brush for cleaning jars. I don’t can, but do re-use jars and this would be good.

  5. I don’t can foods but I store lots of my food in the pantry in mason jars. Much easier to store and find items. Getting them clean after use is a must so this bottle brush looks perfect.
