Please Clean-Up Your Cigarette Butts!!!

We spend a lot of time outdoors hiking, camping, taking walks on the beach, etc. There’s nothing like being outside in the fresh air and sunshine. It’s healthy for us physically and mentally to spend time outdoors.

I’m sick and tired of seeing all of the cigarette butts everywhere I go. I personally don’t have anything against smokers…nothing at all. If they want to harm their bodies by smoking, that’s entirely up to them. Same with those who drink alcohol. I believe people have rights and freedoms in this country.

Please Clean-Up Your Cigarette Butts!!!

However, people don’t have the right to litter. To toss their cigarette butts out the windows of their vehicle, to outten them on sidewalks, walking trails, or to outten them in the sand on a beach. You have the right to smoke but you need to take responsibility of outtening them correctly and disposing them in the right place. Like the trash!!!

Not only is it littering and ugly to look at…it’s dangerous! You can catch another vehicle on fire (if tossing out a window), catch a forest or park on fire, a building/home, etc.

When I worked at a local hospital I saw a small 3 year old child with burns all over their back. How did they get them? Well, Daddy thought he tossed his cigarette out the window of their moving car but instead it landed in the carseat of the baby sitting behind him. Ugh.

Like I said, I have nothing against smokers but please…don’t smoke around non-smokers and PLEASE clean-up your cigarette butts! Rant over!

I agree completely with this post. I do not know why some people are so inconsiderate.

  2. I am in total agreement. It makes me so angry to see cigarette butts and liquor bottles just tossed out on waling paths or sidewalks. Sometimes at the park there will be a garbage can a few steps away. Such a sad and preventable tragedy about the little boy with burns.

totally agree! Years ago I saw a driver empty his ashtray out the car window.

  4. I totally agree with this rant. We live in a rural area and we are in a scary drought here and it is major fire season here. When I drive down the road and see a cigarette butt on the road I just about lose my mind!!! A fire here from a lit cigarette butt means life or death to us. If a police officer sees you throw a lit cigarette butt out the window here you go to jail. I agree with you, I hate to see cig butts out in nature anywhere.
