No Bake Chocolate Cereal Bars Recipe

Got leftover cereal sitting around? Don’t know what to do with the crumbs or stale cereal? I save all of the cereal that no one wants to eat and stash it away in a large plastic zipper closure bag. Once I’ve accumulated 2 1/2 cups I turn the entire mixture into No Bake Chocolate Cereal Bars. It’s similar to no-bake cookies but a great way to use up all of that cereal you have lying around.

You can basically use any type of breakfast cereal that you have on hand. On this particular day my mixture was made up of Cheerios, Apple Jacks, a little bit of Fruity Pebbles, and Honey Bunches of Oats. I mixed them all together in my bag and then measured out what I needed for the recipe.

You’ll need to prepare your baking sheet or pan ahead of time. I use an 8″ by 8″ square baking pan that’s lined with aluminum foil. I then lightly butter the foil to prevent non-sticking.

2 1/2 cups of Breakfast Cereal
6 Tbsp. Creamy Peanut Butter
2 Tbsp. Butter, softened
1-2 Tbsp. Chocolate Baking Powder
6 Tbsp. Maple Syrup

Measure out your 2 1/2 cups of cereal and set aside in a large bowl.

In a large saucepan combine together the creamy peanut butter, softened butter, chocolate baking powder, and maple syrup over low to low-medium heat. You need to stir it constantly until melted and blended together. Turn off heat. It will be semi-thick in consistency.

Spoon the chocolate mixture into the cereal bowl. Stir until you have the majority if not all of the cereal pieces coated with the chocolate mixture. Spread it into your prepared baking pan in a flat layer. Don’t worry if you don’t have it touching all four sides. Cover with another sheet of aluminum foil.

Place into the refrigerator for 1-2 hours to get it to set. Remove. Use a knife to cut into squares or bar shapes. Place in an airtight container.

This is a great way to use leftover cereal. I never heard of chocolate baking powder, but Amazon it simply seem to be chocolate grade cocoa for baking.

What a great way to use those leftovers. It gets rid of them and the kids can make this and then eat it. It is a win, win, win all the way around. Thank you for the idea.
