How to Find the Right Extension for Short Hair

August 31, 2021 by Sam H.

Arguably, women with short hair have the most use out of hair extensions. That’s because it enables them to create a hairstyle that adds length and volume to their hair instantly, instead of having to wait endlessly for their hair to grow back.

But what kind of hair extension suits you best? – This is a pivotal question to ask yourself before buying tape-in or clip in hair extensions for your hair. Yes, they are among the most popular types, but it isn’t true that they are the only ones to buy.

How to Find the Right Extension for Short Hair

There are several other types of hair extensions you can consider before finally purchasing the one that suits you best. Below are some options you can browse through.

Pre-bonded and micro extensions

These types of extensions are the best choice for women who have thick hair as they blend easily. Also, they lie flat on the head, making them look very natural and undetectable.

However, it is crucial to get an extension that matches the color of your natural hair, or it might stand out. You can ask your stylist for advice initially if you are unsure about what length to buy.

Clip-in extensions

Clip-in hair extensions are easily among the most sought-after types in the market. They are especially great for women with short hair as they effectively cover the natural length. Typically, they work best for women with a hair length of about three to four inches.

You should pick clip-ins that are at least fourteen to eighteen inches long, as they can seem quite heavy on the head at first. It is also important to know how to clip the extensions in, or it could lead to further hair damage. For instance, if they are too close to the scalp, they will pull at the roots.

Weft extensions

If you have hair about three inches in length or even shorter, wefts are an appropriate choice. You can stack wefts one on top of another to give your hair a sophisticated, layered look. This works to reduce the bluntness of your hair and adds volume instead. They are also fantastic at hiding blunt cuts.

However, do remember to clip them onto enough hair when you layer them, or it could become heavy on the head and lead to breakage.

Tape-in extensions

According to research, the middle-class population could well lead to the rise in the hair extensions industry shortly. What this means is that more ordinary folks are showing interest in using hair extensions. This includes not just women but men as well.

Of late, more men have been experimenting with their looks by using wigs and hair extensions. Most of them are making this choice over invasive surgical procedures such as hair transplants.

Weave or sew-in extensions

These are an excellent option for short-haired women who want a more permanent look. As the name suggests, weave extensions are sewn into the natural hair to avoid any chances of them accidentally coming off. Once sewn in, they are just like your natural hair, and you can wash, comb, and dry them as well.

They work best on women with thick hair and need professional application. Depending on how quickly your hair grows, the extensions will need to be moved up every six to eight weeks.

Whatever you get, make sure to consult with your hairstylist first, as professionals know which kind suits your hair, face, and other attributes best.

Well, this is nothing I’ve ever thought about. I keep my hair short because I swim twice a week. Good tips.
