Cat Lives Matter and Dog Lives Matter Painted Seashells Yard Art

Cat Lives Matter and Dog Lives Matter Painted Seashells Yard ArtWe’re animal lovers and have an almost 2 year old cat named Romeo. We’re also the proud grandparents to our granddog who just turned 12 years old. Cats and Dogs are some of the best friends you can ever have in this world. They give you unconditional love and are faithful to their owners.

Two weeks ago I sat down and painted these large clam seashells to honor Cats and Dogs. The kitty one is sitting out on my front porch and the doggy one is on my daughter’s front porch at her home. These painted seashells are really easy to make and great for beginners!

You’ll need large clam shells that measure 4″ to 5″ in width. Wash them and thoroughly dry them. I used black acrylic craft paint for my background. So, I gave each shell 2 coats of black paint, allowing 30 minutes of drying time between coats. Depending on the paint, you may need to do a third coat to get even coverage.

I’m NOT a talented decorative painter so I opted to use acrylic paint pens to add my decoration and wordage. In this case…I chose the color white which pops off the black background. It really stands out!

On the Cat Lives Matter seashell I added whiskers and cat ears. On the Dog Lives Matter seashell I add two paw prints. Super simple designs. You could make them more elaborate if your talented in the painting department. Let the paint dry for at least 3 hours.

Take them outside and spray them with 2-3 coats of clear acrylic spray sealer. I used one that has a glossy finish as I like the “shine” that it gave to the shells. You can now display them inside or outside of your home.
