Little Bridges’ Grandma & Me Explore Outdoors Activity Kit
My grandchildren love spending time in the great outdoors. You’ll often find us outside hiking, playing backyard games, going for walks on the beach, gardening, swimming, etc. It’s important that kids spend time outside getting physical activity and exploring their interests. Not only do they learn new things with outdoor play, but it’s good for their bodies too!

The Little Bridges’ Grandma & Me: Explore Outdoors Activity Kit is a great way for grandmothers (like me) to spend time with the kids. My granddaughter is 12 and my grandson is almost 6 years old. We spend a lot of time together and are always looking for new things to do. The kit is geared for grandma and grandkids ages 4 and up.
Inside the kit you’ll find:
Storybook
Magnifying Glass
Outdoor Activity Journal
Paint Pens
Sidewalk Chalk
Solar Print Kit
Drawstring Backpack
Instruction Sheet
Activities in the kit are laid out in steps starting with the read the book together (see below).
A Busy Bee Life is a hardcover book that is perfect for family reading time. It has a delightful storyline and stunning illustrations that combine to unravel the intricacies of life within a busy, buzzing hive. Celebrate the sheer cleverness of bees as they explore their garden world through a cycle of seasons. It’s a story to be read together or for budding young readers to read on their own.
Here’s a fun fact that we learned from the book: While most worker bees live for about 40 days, the queen can live for up to 5 years! Most bees in the hive are worker bees.
Step 2 is to Create a Solar Print Keepsake. For this project you’ll collect natural objects and use solar power to create your own original prints. Once collected you arrange them on the special solar paper. Place the frame with your objects in the sun for 1-8 minutes. Rinse the paper in water for 1 minute. Let dry and enjoy.
Step 3 is to go on a nature walk and explore the outdoors together. The included activity journal has dozens of activities to do together. You can hit the backyard or visit a neighbhorhood park. Grab a pen, the magnifying glass and the activity journal which can all be placed into the included backpack. There are pages in the journal for you to document what you see and do.
The included sidewalk chalk can be used to make artwork, write out math problems, make a hopscotch, play tic-tac-toe, etc. My grandchildren had a blast playing tic-tac-toe and drawing pictures on the sidewalk for all of the neighbors to see.
My grandson is really into bug hunting so we spent a lot of time outside looking for bugs in the bushes, flower garden, on the trunks of trees, grass, etc. In one hour he spotted worms, pincher bugs, ladybugs, flies, bees, beetles, etc. I personally find them to all be gross but he was in his glory!!!
Over the past 2 weeks we’ve been enjoying the Grandma & Me: Outdoor Activity Kit. There’s a lot of activities to do and it will spark some of your own ideas too! It’s a great kit to do at home or take it with you when you go traveling. It would be perfect to take along with you when you go camping!
