Over the winter I spent a miserable 4 months recovering from a painful injury and surgery. During the recovery process my skin and nails were neglected. Let’s face it, when you’re in pain nothing else matters. Including your personal beauty routine.
Six weeks ago I finally got back into the habit of taking care of myself and implemented a new beauty routine. To start off with…I had to get my nails back into shape. I’m not the type of person to run to a salon and get them professionally done. I have better things to do with my time and money. I’m all about finding affordable solutions that work…at home!
My nail care routine consists of 3 hand and nail soaks a week. I have a plastic bowl with low sides that I fill up with warm water and a few drops of my favorite moisturizing lotion. I stir it around and stick my hand down into it while watching TV for 10 minutes, three times a week (each hand).
These moisturizing hand soaks have softened up the skin on my hands and I swear my cuticles and nails look 100% better. Healthier and moisturized. I use a natural cocoa butter body lotion in my hand soaks and it does the trick beautifully. It’s affordable and readily available. Any brand will do.
I invested $28 in a 4-piece nail care kit called Perfect Formula. It came with a bottle of Pink Gel Coat, a bottle of My Favorite Top Coat and 3 Gel Nail Colors.
Twice a week for 6 weeks I applied the Pink Gel Coat onto my nails. Once a week I used polish remover to remove it before applying a new coat. It dries really quickly (within 10 minutes) and gives your nails a healthy shine and makes the white of your nails look a little brighter.
Once the 6 weeks was over with I ended up with long and beautiful nails once again! Now that they’re long and strong…I’ve been applying one of the colors that came in the kit and topping it with the My Favorite Top Coat that also came in the kit. Again, the polishes dry faster than most other brands and in my honest opinion…they resist chipping a few days longer too!
I’m really hard on my nails. I’m a prolific hand washer, gardener, crafter, cleaner and use my laptop all of the time. Those activities really take a beating on your nails! The photograph shows my one hand 6 weeks after I started the nailcare program. Fantastic results! (please ignore the swelling, I’m still recovering from my broken arm and hand!).

Where did I get it? I purchased it from QVC for around $28 bucks! It was the best $28 bucks that I’ve ever spent for nailcare products. I love them so much that I wanted to tell all of my girlfriends on the blog about it!

I wish my nails looked great like yours. I am thinking about trying this nail care routine.
I have a hard time keeping my nails looking good with doing so much yard work and gardening. The nail soak with some moisturizer added in is a fantastic idea and one that I am going to try.
Thank you so much. I want my hands and nails to look better but did not know what to do. I am trying your routine and see. Thank you so much for the information.
I had not thought of soaking my hands and nails like you describe. A good idea. I usually have nail polish on, I like cheery colors; your nails look in excellent condition with your care regimen.
I am going to try soaking my hands too they sure need it in this heat we are having. Your nails look really pretty. I would like to try these products.
Lets not talk about how bad our nails look. One week I have pretty even nails on all fingers, the following week I have broken just about ever nail. So I am going to do the soak and lotion and see what condition my nails are in.
Your nails look great! Mine have always chipped..etc. Probably because of all the dishes I wash. I need to try these products.
