Our family is big on animal conservation and education. We often volunteer our time helping animals along the eastern seaboard and across the mid-Atlantic region. We believe in taking our children to various zoos, wildlife parks, animal rescues, etc. so that they can learn about them and the importance of saving them for centuries to come.
A few months ago we took the kids down to the Virginia Zoological Park located in Norfolk. We have family and friends that live in Virginia Beach, so we try to visit the zoo every time that we’re down there. Due to Covid-19 and the pandemic restrictions you’ll want to visit the zoo’s website before going. On the day that we went we had to reserve our tickets, day and time online. They were operating at limited capacity. Things can change, so check the website first before going.
When visiting you’ll want to allow 3 hours in your schedule which will allow you plenty of time to visit all of the animal exhibits and to participate in educational programs that may be happening that day. Wear comfortable walking shoes and dress appropriately for the weather. You’ll be doing a lot of walking and spending the majority of your time outdoors.
Your not permitted to bring food and beverages into the park. You can purchase food and beverages while you’re there. Leave the majority of your bags and items locked up in your vehicle. You’re permitted to bring in diaper bags, baby strollers, cameras, etc. Always remind your children to practice safety when you’re out & about in public and instruct them on what to do if they become separated from you.
On the day that we were there they weren’t busy at all. We were able to take our leisurely time through the park. The kids loved seeing all of the animals and one of the highlights from our visit was the ride on the zoo train. My son was thrilled for the train ride!
In this blog post you’ll see a few photographs from our visit. It was the 3rd time that we had been there and we always see and learn something new. It’s a great zoo and we highly recommend that you visit if you’re going to be in the area and looking for something to do.
I too have made reservations to go to our zoo and the family enjoyed our time there. This park looks like a fun place to visit too.
I have actually enjoyed being able to make reservations at our local zoo. We have found it much quieter and we have had better opportunities to see the animals. It looks like this is a neat park to visit.
For some kids the animals are nice but the train is FUN! Looks like a neat place to visit.
We have a small animal place about 30 miles away from us. It has a lot of different animals and they sell the food there that you can feed some of them. My great niece loves to go there some times they take lunch and have a picnic before or after going in. Great niece has learned so much about animals in these visits
That looks like so much family fun. I am glad the children enjoyed it.
