Kid’s Crafts: Plastic Potato Chip Containers Coin Banks
Here’s a great way to recycle a few of those plastic potato chip containers. The one we used in our kid’s craft project was from Lay’s STAX Potato Chips. We removed the paper label and washed it out before beginning the project. Let the kid’s get creative! They can use acrylic paint pens, Sharpie Markers, stickers, glue on beads, buttons, and rhinestones, etc.

The project shown today was made by my almost 6 year old grandson with the help from an adult. He used acrylic craft paint pens to decorate his potato chips container. Once dry, it was taken outside and sprayed with 2 light coats of clear acrylic spray sealer to help protect the painted design. Let it completely dry before using it.
You’ll need to use a pair of sharp scissors (an adult) to cut the coin slot in the plastic lid. Make it the size of a .50 cent piece so that all coins will fit through it. You can fold up dollar bills and push them down into it too. These plastic banks can then be toted into the bank and coins dumped through a coin counting machine.
This craft project allows kids to get artistically creative. Plus, you can talk to them about the importance of earning money and saving it. Our grandchildren do chores at their house and at our house and earn money for doing them. Every time they make a bank deposit into their savings accounts they have to deposit 70% of what’s collected in their banks and they can spend the other 30% on whatever they want.
