Philadelphia City Skyline from a Distance

Philadelphia City Skyline from a DistanceA few weeks ago we were coming back from the beach and traveling across a big bridge right outside of the Philadelphia area. Officially it’s called the Commodore Barry Bridge and commuters (and travelers) use it a lot to go from Pennsylvania into New Jersey, and vice-versa. We were coming from New Jersey into Pennsylvania.

On the day that we were traveling through it was raining in a large portion of Philadelphia but blue skies over the bridge. I found it pretty interesting. If you look closely at my photo (take while on the highest span of the bridge) you’ll see the Philadelphia city skyline in the distance. It was cloudy, dark and gray over the city!

I’m not an expert, but I would guestimate that we were about 15 to 20 miles away and were crossing the Delaware River. That river sees a lot of shipping and you often see barges and boats moving around the area.  I really dislike big bridges so I was trying to occupy myself by looking out the window and not focusing on all of the big trucks & traffic around us. Sigh. I just hate big bridges!!!

Anyway, I thought it was interesting that I was able to capture that in a photograph. The next time we go through (in a few weeks) I’m going to try to photograph it again and hopefully this time around it will be sunny from both sides!

I like this photograph and the juxtaposition of the sky with the water and skyline. I enjoy seeing big city skylines.

  2. That’s a neat photograph. The clouds look like they are rising up from the city skyline. It will be interesting to see the contrast if you get a sunny day on your next visit.
