How To Hire A Mover: A Guide For Moving Out

May 15, 2021 by Sam H.

How To Hire A MoverGoogle will get you a list of names for “moving company near me”, but you should do more research than that when deciding who you will entrust with your most valuable possessions.

Here are some things you need to consider when hiring a mover in the Montreal area.

Consider Your Moving Needs

You’ve probably got lots of questions and don’t want to rely on a random name you saw online. Questions like:

* Do you plan on moving for a few months?

* Will you be moving a lot of furniture, small objects, or a single wardrobe? Are you moving your whole house?

* How large a load are you expecting? For how long are you planning on staying at your new home?

* Do you need an operator who is available 24/7?

To hire a reliable company that has been around for a while, you need to do some digging. There are some great mover review sites that offer real users telling their own moving stories.

You’ll probably find that PODS are the best way to go. PODs are moving companies that offer storage at their self-storage facilities. They’ll pack everything up and store it until you’re ready to move.

When evaluating your options for moving companies, it’s also useful to check a load board online, which can offer real-time insights into available moving services and their current rates.

Important Factors to Consider

Since moving your boxes and personal belongings is the biggest part of the project, it will take a good contractor a long time to pack the boxes with labels, tape, and other details. Once you have decided on a reputable moving company in Montreal, check out their BBB rating. Use www.bbb.org to see if there are any complaints about the company. Another thing to consider is the company’s reputation in the community.

Do your homework

Before you find your movers, you need to do some homework on the companies that will be working on your move. Check to see if the company is licensed with the proper city or county. The easiest way to do this is by using the website of the city or county. Then, do a search for the company’s name plus “relocation” or “moving”.

Once you find a good candidate, contact them and ask for a contact number and business card. If they’re unwilling to provide it, move on. Make sure you understand their qualifications as to how long the company has been in business. It’s a good idea to call a few companies to get quotes and make sure they are covered by your local licensure laws. Ask about the work and setup fees.

Finding the Right Company for You

If your moving company does not have a free local office, then it may be best to search for a local moving company that can assist with your move. If they do have a local office, then they may be worth calling.

Be sure and negotiate how much your mover will charge for your move.

Conclusion: Do your research before hiring a mover and save yourself a headache or potential injury.

Before we moved I did do my research on different companies. I am happy with the one we found and it was careful in moving my piano and an antique.
