How to Freeze Fresh Grapes

How to Freeze Fresh GrapesMy family loves grapes and they’re always on my shopping list. One of my favorite places to purchase them is at our local farmer’s market where I buy them in bulk. I always get them at a good price and they’re fresher than what you find in the grocery store!

Once I get home I like to wash them up and freeze half of them for later use. Did you know that they’ll keep for up to 1 month in your freezer? Even though they state 1 month, I’ll often let them in there for 2 to 2 1/2 months with no problems at all.

When purchasing you always want to buy ripe, but not overly ripe fruits. Buy them still connected to the bunch and avoid loose ones which are often times damaged. They should be plump and firm.

Once you get home place them in a colander under cool running water. You want to rinse them until clean. Gently pull them off of the bunch. You can let the little stem on or remove it. I like to gently remove it.

Place them on a plate and pat-dry with a paper towel or clean cotton cloth. You don’t want them soaking wet when you put them into the freezer. Place them in a single layer on a baking sheet. and place into the freezer until they’re frozen solid. This process will take 1 1/2 to 3 hours depending on the temperature in your freezer.

Remove from freezer and place them in freezer-safe plastic bags or plastic storage containers. By freezing them on a baking sheet first you’ll avoid them freezing together in large clumps. Label and freeze.

Thawing: Remove the bag or container from the freezer the night before you want to enjoy them. Let them thaw overnight in the refrigerator.
