May 19, 2021 by Sam H.

5 Fun Road Trip Ideas Across AmericaA road trip is a truly unique experience, allowing you an unparaded sense of freedom and adventure. It can be difficult to choose the ideal location for your road trip, especially in a place like America that offers an almost endless selection of possibilities. This list is here to help by outlining five of the most iconic American road trips.

1. The Blue Ridge Parkway

The Blue Ridge Parkway offers a stunning drive through the Appalachian Mountains. You will head off from Virginia, drive down the Smoky Mountains National Park in North Carolina, enjoying stunning scenes throughout your drive. Although there are many opportunities to stop off and go for a hike along the way, the main appeal of this road trip is the drive itself. To get more out of the drive, you could ditch the car and take a motorcycle instead. You might want to choose a more robust model, like the Suzuki motorcycles adventurer, so you can make the most out of this mountainous environment. The best time of year for this road trip is Fall, as it allows you to enjoy the beautiful Autumn colors.

2. New York to New England

Starting in the city that never sleeps is certainly a fun way to begin your road trip. Spend a few days exploring New York before driving down through Rhode Island to Cape Cod. You can spend some time enjoying the beautiful beaches, lighthouses and stopping off in Province Town before heading to Boston. End this road trip in Boston, learning more about this fascinating historical city.

3. Route 66

Route 66 is probably the most iconic of American road trips, it is also one of the longest, starting in Chicago and ending up in Los Angeles. When you are driving down the long straight roads of Route 66, you are sure to feel part of an old American tradition. There are many themed attractions along the way, which will help you learn more about the history of this iconic route. You can stop off at some of America’s most famous sites, like the Grand Canyon and Las Vegas. You will also likely stop off at some unknown places, discovering towns that you otherwise would never have heard of. The drive can be done in as little as five days, although, to get the most from your experience it is recommended that you plan for a two-week trip.

4. Miami to Key West

Feel like you are driving through the Atlantic Ocean as you travel from island to island on this stunning drive. Enjoy the sunshine and blue seas all year round as you discover all that Florida’s collection of islands have to offer. You will likely drive over a total of 42 bridges on this trip, making it a road trip like no other.

5. Chicago to New Orleans

Drive through the deep south, starting in Chicago and ending your trip in New Orleans. If you are a music lover then this is the drive for you. Stop off in Memphis, the home of blues, jazz, and Elvis Presley. If you want to truly embrace the spirit of the locations you are driving through, you can always make a road trip playlist to compliment your route. Don’t forget to experience the famed cuisine in the locations you are driving through.
