Visiting the Cape May County Park and Zoo

Cape May County Park and ZooWe’re big animal lovers and love visiting wildlife parks and zoos. Over the decades I would estimate that we’ve visited at least 30 different zoos and parks! One of our favorites to visit is the Cape May County Park and Zoo in Cape May Court House, New Jersey. This park is 100% free to visit, although they do encourage a donation at the park’s entrance. Parking is free too!

The Cape May County Park and Zoo is open 7 days a week. You’ll want to check out their website before visiting for their operating schedule and for information on their current Covid-19 policy. If you want to avoid crowds…try visiting during the weekdays instead of weekends. Visit during the off-season instead of the summer season.

Every year we enjoy taking our two grandchildren to the zoo so that they can see the animals and learn all about them. Most of the exhibits are “hands-off” but there is a small section with farm animals that the kids can feed and pet. You can ONLY feed them the food that you purchase at the exhibit. Please don’t feed them human foods!

You’ll see all kinds of animals while you’re there! Bears, tigers, leopards, lions, giraffes, zebra, monkeys, ducks, white and black swans, pigs, goats, owls, flamingos, all kinds of different birds, turtles, frogs, snakes, fish, deer, camels, etc.

You’ll find two nice areas at the zoo where you can purchase lunch, snacks and/or drinks. Their menu isn’t huge but it’s decent…the basic fare you typically see at the zoo. With that said, I find their prices fairly high, so we eat before we go. There are two to three vendor carts throughout the zoo if you need a frozen treat (popsicles) or something to drink on a hot summer day.

There are two indoor buildings…the World of Birds (the aviary) and the Reptile House. I enjoy going into the aviary but I’m not fond of the reptile house due to my fear of snakes. Hubby takes the grandchildren into the reptile house for me.

You’ll want to allow at least 2 hours in your schedule when visiting the zoo, so that you can see everything that they have to offer. I recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes and dress appropriately for the current weather conditions. You’ll be outside 95% of the time!

After your done you can head into the little gift shop to purchase gifts and souvenirs. You’ll find toys, games, jewelry, postcards, stuffed animals, books, t-shirts, hoodies, and other trinkets. Overall, their prices aren’t too bad!

Well, there you have it! Another great visit to the Cape May County Park and Zoo in New Jersey! If you’ve never visited…we highly recommend it!

I have never been to the Cape May Zoo. My parents took me to Cape May, I took my daughters and now I take my grandchildren. Don’t know how we keep missing it.

That looks like a fun place to visit. We have something similiar here ~ Riverbanks Zoo and Garden. One of my favorite places to go.

  4. This looks like so much fun. The flamingos and the penguins are one of my favorites when we go on a visit to the zoo. We have found that fall and winter are better than the summer months because more of the animals are out and active.
