Kid’s Crafts Photo Frame Refrigerator Magnets for Mother’s Day

April 24, 2021 by Shelly

Last weekend my grandson was over for an Arts and Crafts play date. Twice a month I like to have the kids come over to work on fun projects with me. We sat down and made these adorable Mother’s Day Photo Frame Refrigerator Magnets out of wooden craft sticks. The project shown in my photograph was made by a 5 1/2 year old, so it’s an appropriate project for kids age 5 years and up. With adult supervision of course!

Wood Craft Sticks
Acrylic Craft Paint
Paint Brush, Water Dish, Paper Towels
Quick Drying Clear Craft Glue
Self-Adhesive Plastic Jewels
Commercial Grade Magnets
Double-Sided Tape

Note: I recommend using commercial grade magnets. This photo frame is semi-weighty and you don’t want it sliding down the front of your refrigerator. I used magnets that I purchased from Amazon and featured on our blog in THIS POST. I highly recommend them! I used 4 of them on the back of our frame.

Let the kids decide what color to paint their craft sticks. Prince’s favorite color is green so he selected a lime green color. You only need to paint one side of each stick which helps to save on time. Allow the paint to dry for 30-60 minutes or until it’s no longer tacky.

Use quick-drying craft glue to glue your four craft sticks together as shown in the photograph. If you want to speed this up, have an adult use a hot glue gun.

We used self-adhesive plastic jewels to jazz up the frame. They’re simply peel-n-stick. We found a sheet of them at the craft store which contained different shapes, sizes and colors for a dollar. Have the child use the jewels to decorate the front of their frame. Make sure you push them down securely so they adhere nicely. If they don’t stick firmly, add a tad of glue.

For our photo: We made these for Mother’s Day. So, on the front of the house we used sidewalk chalk to write I (heart) Mom! Took a quick picture of Prince standing there and printed it out.

Finishing Up: We trimmed down the photo slightly so that it fit behind our wooden frame. To tack it to the back we used double-sided sticky tape to adhere all four edges down. It’s now ready for him to give to his Mommy on Mother’s Day!

I am so appreciative of the neat crafts that you post because you have simple and clear instructions and I almost always have the supplies at hand. When I don’t have the supplies I can usually just make a trip to the dollar store and pick up what I need inexpensively.

Thank you! I believe kids should be making a lot of arts & crafts as they grow up. It teaches them so many things! How to read, write, add, substract, measure things, follow instructions, creativity, patience, etc. I believe that crafting should be inexpensive for sure!!!
