I’m the mom to two beautiful children and have been reading books to them and with them since the day they were born. It’s important that children are introduced to books and reading at a very young age. It helps to instill the love for reading in them and can help them learn to read at an early age. Over the past 11 years I would estimate that we’ve read over 300+ books!
Recently we had the opportunity to review Jenny the Chimpanzee by author Lotus Kay which is a fabulous children’s book. It’s illustrated by Chey Diehl and published by Eifrig Publishing. Here’s some information about the book, author and publisher.

Available now just in time for Earth Day April 22nd, 2021 and Endangered Species Day May 21st, 2021,the book is told in rhyme and encourages young readers to learn about the history and origins of human evolution told by a chimpanzee named Jenny. And they will be reminded of how interconnected humans are with all other wildlife on this planet. As Lotus writes: “So let’s make sure that we care for each other’s safety. No matter who you are. Whoever you may be. Whether you are a human or a chimpanzee.”
Illustrated by Chey Diehl, “Jenny the Chimpanzee” is the latest release in the Bears for Cares book series and campaign founded by Kay and her sister Jazmin on Endangered Species Day as a project of Jane Goodall Institute’s Roots & Shoots youth service program. The campaign aims to educate children about the state of wildlife and our earth, and what they can do to make a difference and create a more compassionate world.
An added bonus to “Jenny the Chimpanzee” are inspirational quotes from world-renowned ethologist and environmentalist Dr. Jane Goodall, considered to be the world’s foremost expert on chimpanzees.
Other books in the series include “More Beautiful Than Heaven,” “Billie the Octopus,” and “A Thanksgiving for the Turkeys.”
Bears for Cares books are also available with stuffed animals based on characters in the books in partnership with toy company Hugg-a-Planet: Beary the Polar Bear (in “More Beautiful Than Heaven”), Billie the Octopus, Milo the Turkey and Jenny the Chimpanzee.

My Thoughts: My 11 year old daughter is a book lover and prolific reader. My 5 year old son is learning how to read. Both of them enjoy books that are centered around nature and animals. Last week we sat down and my 11 year old read this book to us from cover-to-cover. It’s an easy read and the illustrations are gorgeous!
It’s an entertaining story written in a way that even a young child like my 5 year old son can understand and written in such a way that it engaged & entertained my 11 year old daughter. A great book for families who have multi-aged children that they’re reading to during Family Reading Time. It’s a nice addition to our library book collection. You can purchase it from Amazon for a really great price and it’s available in hardcover or paperback formats.
