Cooling Mistakes to Avoid During Summer

April 11, 2021 by Sam H.

Cooling Mistakes to Avoid During SummerIf you find that your home is simply not cooling down in the way that you would like it to, and you are starting to feel frustrated by it, there is every chance that you could be making one of the mistakes that have been included in the blog post below. If you identify any of them, now may be the time to make a change in your own home and ensure that your rooms are the optimal temperature.

Failing to Service Your AC Unit

Every home has an air conditioning unit that needs to be kept properly serviced rather than simply allowing it to sit there year after year. So, if your unit is simply no longer up to scratch, the issue could be that you need to have your HVAC serviced by an HVAC  company or wherever you are living. To avoid needing to do any additional maintenance on your unit than strictly necessary, you should make sure that you read the manufacturer’s guidelines and stick with them as closely as you possibly can.

Not Using Ceiling Fans Properly

Another major issue may arise from the fact that you are not using your ceiling fans as well as they should be used. You may be wondering how badly you can get this wrong. You do not always have to turn your fans off whenever you turn your AC on. In fact, your ceiling fans can help when it comes to circulating cool air throughout the home. Another alternative is to set the blades to rotate counterclockwise as this can help to create a downwards breeze instead of circulating air that is already hot. Use a 12″ inline fan for better airflow and cooling.

Keeping Your Blinds Open All Day

Your blinds are a highly useful tool in your home cooling arsenal, and they need to be used effectively. During the day, the sunlight streaming through your windows can cause your home to heat up when you do not want it to. Keeping your blinds or curtains closed can help to address this problem directly. If your window dressing is not currently doing the job that you would like it to, you could invest in some better-quality blackout shades or curtains.

Using Your Oven Too Much

Your oven is an invaluable piece of equipment in your kitchen, but you do not want to rely on it too much during the warmer months of the year. While they are convenient, they give off a great deal of heat. Instead, you should try to use your other cooking appliances at home. Even better, you could try doing some more of your cooking outdoors instead. This means relying on a barbecue or even investing in a proper outdoor kitchen with a woodfire pizza oven, etc.

By avoiding making the four errors listed above, you will put yourself in a much better position with regards to keeping your home nice and cool during the summer months. You can also help cut down on your heating and cooling costs, and it is always nice if you do not have to pay any more than you should!

These are good tips. I try to use a toaster oven if I need to bake something during the summer.

I make a point of closing my blinds and windows during the heat of the day and opening up in the evening. Lots of salads and foods on the grill for us in the summer so as not to use the stove. Little things like this can make a difference.

I’m good with all of these. My place faces West so I make sure my blinds are closed.
