The Golden Gate Bridge is one of the prettiest bridges in the United States. The strait connects the Pacific Ocean with the San Francisco Bay. The bridges has 6 lanes and carries vehicles (and pedestrians) between U.S. Route 101 and California State Route 1. It’s one of the most recognizable symbols for California.
Construction on the bridge began in 1933 and ended in 1937. It has been updated and revamped over the years when needed. It’s a toll bridge and if you’re traveling southbound you’ll need to pay the fee. In 1987 the bridge was listed as a California Historical Landmark. Total length is 8,980 feet or 2,737.1 miles, that’s quite the distance!
Last year Sam was in the San Francisco area on business and was able to get a few photographs of it. Sadly, I wasn’t along for the trip…but I did get the see the bridge and cross it back in the fall of 1999. So, I already had it checked off my travel bucket list. Hubby finally has it checked off his list too.
Have you ever seen it? The day that I crossed it traffic was heavy. I was pretty anxious with 6 lanes of bumper to bumper traffic on the bridge that day. Sorry, I’m not fond of crossing these type’s of bridges. I guess I have a little bit of a phobia about that but glad I was able to see it.

I have seen this bridge . It is as beautiful as people have said. Since I was not driving I could really enjoy it.
I have seen the bridge once many years ago. I remember feeling awestruck by it. It would make me anxious to drive over it in a lot of traffic.
Yes I did get to see the bridge and ride across it (someone else was driving so I could look my fill. I even hiked near it when I was there.
I have seen it and it is beautiful. It is pretty just to sit and look at. I did not cross it when I was there. One thing is printed wrong. The bridge is 8,980 feet or 2,737.1 meters or 1.7 miles or 2.7 kilometers long.
