How to Come Up With an Award-Winning Design for Your Home

March 18, 2021 by Sam H.

How to Come Up With an Award-Winning Design for Your HomeWhen you are going to the trouble of building a new home, you want it to look good and consider everything. To be practically useful and aesthetically pleasing at the same time. To stand out from the other houses for all the right reasons. This is where it is important to hire a company such as Design Build Boston to take care of those house plans for you. They are not just skilled in drawing your plans accurately and to scale, but can also design your property for or with you so that you will be happy with it for years to come.

Employ Architects

The best way to ensure that your home is of the standard to win awards is to employ a specialist firm to design it. Using your initial ideas, they can make sure that the home will stand out from the rest while still blending in with its environment. Also, be a house that incorporates the very latest features and design considerations and be capable of pleasing many eyes as well as yours.

Firms of architects will pride themselves on coming up with the most innovative and eye-catching designs. It is how they end up recommended for the next job. So, you already have them on your side and wanting to do the best for you. They want you to be pleased with what has been brought to life through their drawings. Then, not just be pleased with the drawings themselves, but what will eventually be built from them. It takes a certain kind of mind to know exactly how something will look once it is finished. Architects have developed this ability as a result of their training. They can visualize how a home will look before even putting pen to paper. When they do, it will be accurate and drawn to scale and show your home from different angles.

Award-Winning Design Considerations

It is exciting choosing your house design. There will be so many things to consider that can all be guided by you and developed by your architect. There will be new ideas your architect has brought to the drawing table for you to consider. They will want each house that they design to be bespoke, while you will want it to meet your needs practically and look pleasing to the eye. This mixing of minds is part of the creative process and will result in something quite special being produced. So, let us look at what we need to consider in a design.

Liveability – is about creating a home that we would want to live in. This is in terms of how practical it is regarding its facilities and how pleasing it is to look at. For example, small details like adding a dark wood dining table can be both attractive and really helpful when it comes to hosting parties or even day-to-day meals. The advantage of building a home from new is that it can take advantage of the latest facilities. Its view can be pleasing because you chose the site it was to be built on. The architecture can be of a design that is in keeping with those surroundings and our modern or historical preferences.

Convenience – recognizes for instance that some of us might prefer one large room as opposed to two small rooms side by side.

Functionality – will think about how useable a kitchen space is. That it is big enough to have areas to prepare food. Whether people will be able to eat in the kitchen or always eat in the dining room. Where, for instance, will your office space be? How many bedrooms will your potentially need? Will there be a room you can use as a library or one that you can use as a home gym? It is about thinking in advance what each room might be used for to make it suitable for the proposed activity.

Style – is a visual thing and very much for the designer to get right. Some people will find straight lines pleasing, while otherwise will like curves.

Comfort and Space – have been put together because space is comfortable and you can decide just how big each room needs to be when you build a house from its foundations.

Layout – is important because access from one room to another is affected. For instance, you may want to have access to your garage from inside the house. In that case, which room do you want to access your garage from?

A home that covers all these areas and does it in an innovative, space-saving, and aesthetically pleasing, and different way, is more likely to be considered award-winning.

Sketch Your Ideas First

When bringing an idea to an architect, it is better if you can sketch something yourself first rather than try to describe what you mean. You do not have to be the best artist, just show something visually. You can use descriptive labels, too, to explain what you mean. Then, you can get the best out of your design experience with the architect. It is better to pre-plan than have your architect need to keep coming up with different sketches that you could have come up with yourself. Your architect can then more quickly be guided into drawing up your final set of design plans that will satisfy both authorities, in terms of the regulations, and your building firms as far as representing a clear set of instructions of your property design.

In conclusion, we should always look to employ architects when building a new home, particularly those known for producing award-winning designs. Also, consider the different areas above when initially creating our design. It is a good idea, too, to sketch what you mean rather than describe it. Although, architects are, of course, used to working with both versions. Good luck with building your new home!

I am not planning on building a new home. My older son does want a new home soon, but is not sure whether to build one or buy one already built. He is waiting for the market to be better to buying.
