3 Ways to Improve the Air Quality in Your Home

March 6, 2021 by Sam H.

There are many things that can be done in order to make sure that you are as healthy in your home as you can be. You might only keep healthy food and snack items in the kitchen and steer clear of any sugary treats, or you might be in the habit of cleaning all surfaces with disinfecting wipes on a routine basis.

Of all the things you do to make sure that your home is a healthy environment for you and your family, paying attention to the air quality in your house should be one of them. There are actually some proactive steps that you can take in order to improve the air quality in your home and ensure that the air you breathe is as fresh and as clean as possible.

While many of your routine housekeeping chores, such as vacuuming and dusting, can go a long way to helping improve your air quality, there are also some things that might not have occurred to you.

3 Ways to Improve the Air Quality in Your Home

With that in mind, here are three ways in which you can improve the air quality in your home:

1. Air Conditioning Maintenance

As the main appliance that blows air throughout your home during the warmer months of the year, your air conditioning unit plays a major role in how good the air quality is in your home. For this reason, it is important to perform the proper maintenance on your A/C unit throughout the year.

Make sure that you have a professional come out to service your a/c unit at least once a year. This will help ensure that your unit is running properly and that your HVAC is clean and functioning well. You should also replace your air filters every three months or so to keep the air that is blowing through your home clean and free of dust and debris.

2. Clean the Carpets

If your home has carpeting in some or most of the rooms, you should certainly have your carpets cleaned at least once a year. If you have a pet or two, you might consider doing this more than once a year.

The fact of the matter is that dust and harmful bacteria can easily get trapped into the fibers of your carpets. This means that every time someone takes a step, they could be releasing such things into the air you breathe. By keeping your carpets fresh and clean, you can help drastically improve the air quality in your home.

3. Groom Pets Regularly

Even though your dog or cat is a member of your family, that doesn’t mean that they aren’t inadvertently ruining the air quality in your home. The dust and debris that gets trapped in your pet’s fur can be released into the air every time they shake or run around.

The best thing that you can do is give your pet the grooming they need on a regular basis. By keeping their fur clean, you can, in turn, keep the air in your home even cleaner.

I have done all of these things . It can make a big difference in the air you breathe and helps asthma sufferers more.

these are great tips. I like the one about pets. It is the same with fabric dust. If you sew a lot… there are fibers in the air. You will need to dust more.
