Top Tips to Plan a Guilt-Free Vacation Without the Kids

February 15, 2021 by Sam H.

Top Tips to Plan a Guilt-Free Vacation Without the KidsWhen you are a mom, it can become harder and harder to leave your kids to take a vacation on your own or with friends, with many moms feeling guilty for planning a trip without the rest of their family. However, a vacation without kids can have many benefits for you and can even help you to be a more relaxed mom throughout the rest of the year.

Plan Childcare First

Once you have recognized the benefits of a kid-free vacation, the first step that you should take is to plan childcare for your kids. The earlier that you plan this, the more reassured you will feel that they are in good hands when you are relaxing on a far-away beach. Once you have found someone to look after your kids, who in most cases will be a family member or a friend, you should make sure that they have all of the equipment and information that they need, from details of bedtimes to the school run. You should also arrange communication methods and how much contact you will have with your kids while you are away.

Consider Your Kid’s Feelings

However much fun you are planning to have while you are away, you should understand that watching their parents travel can be difficult for the kids that are left behind. Although this should not deter you, you should make sure that you discuss their feelings with them before you travel, involve them in the planning if they are interested, and consider bringing something back for them from abroad. You should also consider traveling while they are young to get them used to you being away for long periods.

Book a Luxury Hotel

When you plan a family vacation, you may have to compromise on your accommodation, choose self-catered options, or offer entertainment for the kids. However, now that you only have yourself to think about, you should consider booking a luxury hotel or resort that you would not usually choose. For instance, the resorts that are offered by Outrigger, which is based in Hawaii, can help you to leave all your stresses behind you and get the pampering that you deserve.

Choose a Bucket List Destination and Activities

The most important part of your planning, though, should be choosing your destination and the activities you will do. Then, you should make the most out of the time that you will have away from your little ones by planning to go to a destination that has been on your bucket list before you chose to have kids. You should also consider planning adult-only activities that will not make you wish that the rest of your family was with you at all times.

Start With a Short Trip

If you have never been on a solo trip away from your kids before, you should consider planning a short trip to start with. This can help you to see how you feel about traveling without your kids and how they react to it without committing yourself to a longer vacation.
