How to Renovate the Perfect Workspace for Home
Undoubtedly, many people are now working from home, but there are also a lot that have not set up their work area to suit them the best way possible. This was a mistake that I made when I first started working from home. It resulted in a lot of wasted time and distractions. When I realized this, I took the proper steps to set up my working space correctly, be it with help from apartmentjeanie or otherwise.
The Right Location
When I first chose space for my home office, I chose an area where I could be part of the family activities. This was a mistake as I found that I wasn’t able to concentrate on my work. Plus, I was too accessible to the family where they could ask me to do things during my working hours. I rectified this by setting up some space in our bedroom. I did have some other options, but there was a reason I chose this area. I tend to be a bit of a workaholic. By having my office area in the bedroom, it would restrict me from working late at night. If I did, I would be disturbing my wife.
Proper Seating
I discovered that when I was in an office setting that I did a lot more moving around. At home, I was sitting at my desk for much longer periods of time. I started to experience fatigue and a dull backache. I thought it was just because I was sitting longer. Then I realized it was because I have been using the wrong chair. I took the time to pick out the best chair. I bought one that gave me good back support, including support for my thighs. I chose one with arms so I could have a little more support for my arms. This took the pressure off of my shoulders. For material, I went with leather as it works for all seasons. In order to accommodate this type of chair, I already had a hardwood floor in the bedroom, but it was covered in carpet. I removed a section of this that helped to define my new office space and accommodate the movement of the chair. I then purchased a floor protector.
Dual Monitors
Another thing I incorporated into my new workspace was two monitors. The renovation I had to do for this was install more power. I am running a lot of electronics.
New Lighting
Perhaps the most extensive renovation for my working space was the installation of new lighting. I didn’t want to have desk lamps, so I installed drop lighting in the work area.
Other Renovations
I added additional items that also took extra power, like a fan. So really bringing in the extra power was the most extensive upgrade when It came to this type of home improvement that I did myself.
Hiring a Contractor
I also made one major change where I needed a professional to assist with this. I wanted a larger window installed. I was going to be spending a good number of hours per day in this work area, so I wanted as much natural light as I could get. This was a major undertaking and beyond my renovation skills. When the job was completed, I was very pleased with the results.
