Easy Homemade Apple Crisp Recipe

For the past few weeks I’ve been staying down at my daughter Shelly’s house to help out with things around her house. While she recovers from surgery I’ve been doing a lot of cooking and baking. I enjoy using tried & true recipes from local community cookbooks and today I’m sharing a new favorite with all of you.

This homemade apple crisp recipe is easy to make. You’ll want to use fresh apples for the best results. Once its done you can eat it plain, topped with cold milk, whipped cream or place a large spoonful of vanilla ice cream on top. It’s delicious and reminds me of the apple crisp my mom used to make when I was a little girl.

1/4 cup butter, softened
3/4 cup light brown sugar
1/4 granulated sugar
1/4 cup quick-cooking oatmeal
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp. salt

Cover the bottom of prepared baking dish with apple slices. In a mixing bowl combine together the granulated sugar, ground cinnamon and salt. Sprinkle on top of the apple slices.

Cream the brown sugar and softened butter together in a bowl. Stir in the quick-cooking oatmeal and all-purpose flour until ingredients are combined. Spread this mixture on top of apple slices.

Place baking dish in 350 degree preheated oven for 40-45 minutes or until apples are fork tender. Remove and let cool. See serving suggestions above. Store all leftovers in a covered bowl in the refrigerator.
