When we visit the coast we always take some time to visit Cape May Harbor. We enjoy sitting down and watching deep sea fishing boats go in and out for the day. Some of the boats spend all night out on the water and come in at sunrise. Others go out at sunrise and spend the day out on the open water. Some of the local fishermen tell us fishing is better during the day and others swear its best at night.
Hubby and I both get seasick so we’re quite content to sit on the docks watching them come in and go out. If we’re lucky enough we can actually watch them unload their haul for the day. Sometimes you’ll see them haul in the big cranes and machinery which is pretty cool to see. A lot of this seafood is for the tri-state region (grocery stores & restaurants) and some is sent around the world.
As soon as we cross the bridge to head into Cape May from the Wildwood island you pass a big seafood plant for Bumblee Tuna. Wind those windows down if you enjoy smelling the salt air and the fishy smells that go along with it. If you’re lucky…you can get across the bridge with no shore birds pooping on your car. One always seems to hit our windshield. LOL
The two photos above were taken fall 2020 on a stormy day. A storm rolled in, rolled out, blue skies, another storm rolled in and repeat an additional 2-3 times. We were lucky to get out in between to see some of the local sights and then headed out for dinner.
I would love to visit the Cape May Harbor. It would be a lot of fun to watch the ships and boats in the harbor.
I love looking at the pictures and would even enjoy standing on shore watching the boats……….. But I also get sea(water) sick. You all have so many fun little trips and when life gets back to normal my sister and I are going to start doing road trips again.
Too bad it’s 1,000 or 2,000 miles to the sea from Colorado. I’d enjoy seeing these.
I used to love watching ships and boats when I was in Italy. We usually watch them now when we visit lighthouses.
