We have family that reside in the great state of Virginia with many of them living right outside of Virginia Beach. Every year we try to get down to VA Beach for the weekend to attend a family gathering. It’s fun for several of us to meet up for the weekend and spend time with one another.
Last summer we spent 3 nights and 4 days soaking up the rays. Even though we were there for a short time we did cram in a few sightseeing activities. We went out on a boat in the back bay for an afternoon of fishing. I caught nothing but hubby was lucky to catch two. We then enjoyed dinner at a nice little Mom & Pop type of place located along the docks.
On a cooler day we spent some type up on the boardwalk and doing some shopping. Due to Covid-19 (the China Virus), we practiced social distancing and wore our face masks. We decided to do it during the day when most other people were out on the beach & doing other things. I didn’t want to be out during the evening hours when things tend to get more crowded.
There was a little art gallery a few streets back from the beach that we visited and I really enjoyed that place. They feature ONLY artisans from the local area and everything was affordable. You could shop for paintings, crafts, handmade jewelry, quilts, etc. Usually art galleries are so darn expensive you can’t even put your foot in the door. I purchased a bracelet for myself and a pair of earrings for my mom.
One of our favorite activities was driving up a little north on our way home to stop by to see a lighthouse and some wild horses that live on the beach. It was amazing to see these horses running up and down the sand, walking in the surf and being…well, wild horses! We have a lot of farms in central PA but you don’t find wild horses running around. Great experience!
Here’s a few photographs from our quick weekend away. Enjoy!
I know that I would enjoy being able to go to this beach for a relaxing getaway.. I have never been to this area of VIrginia.
This looks like a beautiful spot for a relaxing get away. It would be amazing to see wild horses. I would never have thought that was possible in Virginia.
I would love to be able to go to a beach for a weekend. 1,000 or 2,000 miles is a bit too far. I can get up into the mountains in 30 minutes.
