Fun New Year’s Eve Traditions

fireworks new years eveHow many of you have fun New Year’s Eve traditions that you do year after year? When I was a young child we used to spend NYE at my aunt and uncle’s house eating pizza, playing card games and watching the ball drop on TV. Once I reached my teenager years I usually spent the night at a friend’s house or a friend spent the night at my house. We would stay up late watching the ball drop, eating pizza, potato chips, etc. We would sleep until noon the next day!!!

When our daughter was a little girl we would order out for pizza and have a family game night while watching the ball drop on TV. She used to love playing the game RISK or Monopoly on New Year’s Eve. Of course, Sam used to beat us all of the time so we would gang up on him!!!

Now that we’re grandparents and in our middle-age years we’re quite happy to spend a quiet evening at home. Sam steams up some shrimp & crab legs which we devour with pleasure. I usually retreat to my craft room for a little crafting time while he watches a movie on TV. We rarely watch the ball drop anymore as it’s just as exciting as it used to be. Sigh.

So….what kind of New Year’s Eve traditions do you have?

  1. Our tradition in the past years was to have a dinner party and a champagne toast at midnight with some long time friends but that was a no go for this year. Instead it was a movie and burgers but still good to usher out the old year.

  2. Our new year’s eve is similar to yours. We picked up dinner from Bonefish Grill and watched some tv until midnight when we watched the ball drop. When the kids were younger, we’d watch the ball drop and at midnight the kids would go out on the porch and bang pots and pans. We did the same when we were younger and would spend new year’s eve at my grandparents’ house.

We too used to stay up and watch the ball drop. Now I am usually too tired to stay up that late!

  4. When I was a young girl I too used to stay up with friends and family to watch the ball drop and we used to eat all kinds of treats like popcorn, chips and dips and soda. Then in my wild days in my twenties I used to attend Big New Years Eve parties or even go to Las Vegas. Now that I too am in my middle age years, we will just have a nice dinner and try to stay up to see the ball drop but to be honest, I was up at 5:00 a.m. this morning so I will probably fall asleep before Midnight. Happy New Year to you and your family and God Bless.
