Craft Project: Snowman Wood Paint Stir Stick
A few months ago we repainted three rooms in our home. After our painting projects were completed we had several left-over wood paint stir sticks that needed to be repurposed. I decided to turn one of those wooden sticks into a snowman and he was super easy to make! I had him completely finished in just one day. I plan on making a Santa Claus, Reindeer and an Elf next! How will I be displaying them? I have a large potted tropical plant sitting in our foyer and I’m going to stick them into that!

Wood Paint Stir Stick
Acrylic Craft Paint
Paint Brush, Water Dish, Paper Towels
Clear Acrylic Spray Sealer – Glossy Finish
Knit or Ribbon Scarf
You’ll want the indented end of the stick to be the top portion of your character. That indent forms the perfect black top hat for your snowman! I base coated both sides of my wooden stick with 2 coats of white acrylic craft paint. I left it dry (about 30 minutes) and then got busy working on the details.
I painted on his black top hat, 2 black “coal” looking eyes, an orange carrot nose, black coal mouth and buttons. Let dry for 30 minutes. Flip it over and paint JUST the black top hat on the back. Let dry for 30 minutes.
Take your project outside and spray 1-2 coats of clear acrylic sealer on each side of the wooden stick, letting it dry between coats. This will help to protect your painted finish from fading, chipping or cracking. I opted to tie a knitted scarf around his neck (cut from an old knit sweater), but you could certainly use ribbon. That’s it, you’re done!
A quick and easy holiday craft project that doesn’t cost a lot of money! You can use them indoors or outdoors.
