The holidays are just around the corner, and while Christmas can be such a wonderful time of year, it can also be very expensive. Between buying a lot of food and drink, seeing friends and loved ones to do fun, festive things, and finding everyone the perfect gift, by January 1st, your bank account can be completely depleted. If you’re trying not to break the bank this year, here are a few gift ideas and tips to help you stick to your budget.
Baked Goods
Who doesn’t love sweet treats? Homemade baked goods are always a lovely gift, and what makes them even better is the effort that has gone into making them. From brownies and cupcakes to cookies and loaves of bread, gifting some delicious, festive baked treats to your loved ones this year could be a great way to show them some love and save you money. Either include these as additional gifts or give them a box full as the main present.
A Gift Hamper
If you don’t want to spend a lot of money on a big purchase as a gift, consider creating a hamper full of smaller ones instead. Things like chocolates, wine, gin, books, puzzles, socks, and bathing products are all great items to include, and they don’t have to cost a lot, either. A gift hamper is also great as a gift for couples of families, and you can put in something for everyone, rather than buying individual gifts.
Take Advantage of Sales
If you know there is something in particular a friend or relative wants this year, but you’re uneasy about the price tag, take advantage of any sales or promotions that might be taking place. Although Black Friday and Cyber Monday have been and gone, you can usually still find some festive deals going on somewhere. You could even look online for coupons to use at your favorite brands.
Photo Album or Scrapbook
If you’re into your arts and crafts, why not make something more personal for your loved ones this year? Creating a gorgeous photo album or scrapbook containing some of your favorite photos of you and whoever the gift is for is a great idea. It’s a gift that will be cherished always and is a good way to keep a record of all the good times you’ve had together. You could even leave space for them to add to it in the years to come.
Treat Them to a Homecooked Meal
This might not seem like much of a gift, but give it a chance. One of the most important things is spending time with your nearest and dearest, and over the festive season, the best part about it is being with your loved ones. Consider offering to cook a friend or relative a delicious three-course meal at home at some point before or after Christmas and spend some quality time with them, but also letting them sit back and enjoy being waited on by you!
If you want to try something different for gifts this year or are trying to limit your spending, consider the gift ideas and tips above. They could help you still have an amazing Christmas and be an excellent gift-giver without making you worry about your finances!
I like this list. I have done most of these ,sometimes more than once.
Great gift ideas and I really like the Gift Hamper one that is clever and perfect for me this year. I just returned home from doing some Christmas shopping and most of the items that I went in to buy at a certain store were already sold out so I am a little bummed out tonight.
I especially like your idea of a gift hamper – that would be a fun way to give a family gift that could be for everyone. And not using up all that wrapping paper so better for the environment.
This is a very good list. And i have to say I would be happy to get any of those. When you reach that age you really don’t need a lot of stuff………….. But food is always welcome and if it is homemade even better
