Kid’s Crafts – Painted Seashells Elephant Christmas Ornament

November 7, 2020 by Shelly

Kid's Crafts - Painted Seashells Elephant Christmas OrnamentLooking for a fun holiday project to do with the kids? Got a few seashells lying around from summer vacation? Live near the beach? You’ll only need 3 clean shells to make this adorable elephant Christmas tree ornament. Young kids will need a little bit of adult assistance while older children should be able to complete the project on their own.

Kid’s Crafts – Painted Seashells Elephant Christmas Ornament

1 Partial Whelk Shell Spiral
2 Small Clam Shells
Gray Metallic Craft Paint
Black Acrylic Craft Paint
White Acrylic Craft Paint
Paint Brush, Water Dish, Paper Towels
E6000 Adhesive Glue
Scissors
6″ Long Clear Fishing Line
Clear Acrylic Spray Sealer, Glossy Finish

Wash and thoroughly dry all shells before beginning this project. You need to remove sand, debris and fishy odors first! You can do this by rinsing them in warm, soapy water. Air dry.

Paint all 3 seashells with gray metallic craft paint. You will need 2 coats of paint to get the coverage that you need. Let dry. Use the black acrylic paint to make 2 tear drop shaped eyes. Let dry. Once dry dot the inner eye using white acrylic craft paint. Let dry.

Use the E6000 Adhesive Glue to add the small clam shell ears to the top of the elephant’s head. You’ll want to place them at a slight angle. We used metal clothespins to hold them in place until the glue was set. Tie the clear fishing line into a loop with knotted ends. Use the glue to add the hanging cord to the back of the elephant’s head. Let everything dry for several hours.

Take your ornament outside and spray both sides with 1-2 coats of clear acrylic spray sealer in a glossy finish. Let dry for a few hours. Your ornament is now ready to be hung on your Christmas tree or use as a package topper.

This turned out so good and what a clever idea. I love elephants so much and this is a super neat ornament for the tree.
